Our very own... Human Dynamo!!!
President Bev opened the meeting promptly at 7:20 and we got underway with our ROTD Sheila Henry. Sheila asked for a moment of silence in lieu of a prayer before moving on to the Pledge of Alliance. She shared with us what she believes defines “counseling”. It is clear she is passionate about her profession and has a huge heart for serving others.
Ryan introduced our guests and fellow visiting Rotarians. Amongst these, we had Tom Boss visiting from Holland Michigan. Also in town visiting as part of the DGE conference, was our very own Ajay Asher’s long lost cousin Jayesh Asher, DGE District 9211 (Tanzania & Uganda) who traveled from Tanga, Tanzania. In a brief ceremony we exchanged club banners and he spoke about his visit to the US.
Club announcements got underway with President Bev reminding everyone that the next meeting is at the Braille Institute. Incoming RI President Ian Risely will be the guest speaker. Keep in mind this is a multi-club meeting and will be very crowded. Additional parking will be available at the Embassy Suites next door to Braille.
Bev also took the opportunity to discuss the conduct letter that went to the all of the members. She concluded that discussion by asking all members to keep the directory up to date. Apparently
Susan lost Denny and was seriously worried something had happened to him. For all of you that may have been worried sick, he was found safe and sound……
Save the date for the 2016 Career Fair at Preuss on April 6th from noon to 4pm. Tom Hinton along with Barbro and Alex Kirkpatrick have been diligently working on the second annual version of this phenomenal event. All those that would like to participate please reach out to one of the organizers.
Gloria spoke about the feeding the homeless at the Marine Point event on January 29th from 10:45 to 1215. Please see her for further details.
Linda Stouffer, our very own human dynamo, spoke about our the Beer & Spirits festival fundraiser on April 23rd. It only keeps getting better thanks to all members of the club. Please keep the corporate fund raising at the top of your mind and continue to inquire about opportunities.
Rich Papike auctioned off two secret items. Jackie Riley opened her package to find a beautiful wine stopper while Denny Jacobs was surprised to see a sand timer. Wonder what he will time with it? Perhaps his time on the podium as fine master.
Moving on to high 5’s, Emidio
completed the repairs on the plane that crashed a couple of years ago and took it out for a spin. Nothing like getting back on the “bike” after a fall. Way to go Emidio! Kelly’s daughter returned from a trip to Istanbul after enjoying herself tremendously. Will and his son returned from their epic journey to London. Thanks Will for posting the adventures on FB, really enjoyed keeping up with you guys.
Bill Keane took the podium to introduce our guest, Gary Wietzman the president of the San Diego Humane Society. Gary, a member of club 33, put forth a very moving presentation on what the Humane Society does and how they achieve their mission. The San Diego Humane Society was founded in 1880 and at the time was more focused on kids (yes kids!) and horses. Their path has evolved over the years as their organization has grown. Today, they multiple facilities in San Diego including hospitals and rehabilitation centers. They also handle wildlife in addition to domesticated animals. Their main objective for 2015 was “Getting to Zero” which involved a comprehensive plan to save each and every single treatable animal in their shelters. They achieved this and will continue to strive for this in future years. Very impressive indeed.
See you at the Braille on January 22!!
