• The open punt system adds effective flexibility to the way we’ll attack an opponent.

• We will utilize fakes at various times in the season so as to try and force our opponents to spend extra time game planning.

• Most of our opponents admit to extra planning and team time in preparing for the open punt system.

• The system is easy to install. • We have a ten-minute period during pre-season practices

that will provide enough time for our players to learn how to adjust to formation changes.

• New fakes are designed and practiced throughout the season.

1. Center - perfect snap (.7 seconds); brace and cover to the middle. 2. Guards – two-inch split; zone block outside; cover 6 yards from the inside man. 3. Tackles – two-inch split; zone block outside; cover 6 yards from the inside man. 4. X & Z- normal SE split rules; sprint to receiver to force a fair catch. 5. H & Y– outside contain. 6. Running Back- 7 yards depth; align in “A” gap; on snap, close to center’s middle. Block middle rushers. You are the right safety. Always keep the football on your inside shoulder. 7. Punter - 12-15 yards depth; punt the ball in 1.3 seconds. You are the left safety. Always keep the football on your inside shoulder.

DO NOT COMMIT THE FOLLOWING INFRACTIONS

1. Do not be offside.

2. Do not rough the kicker (automatic first down) or holder on PATs or FGs.

4. Do not let the ball hit the ground.

5. Do not clip.

6. Do not block below the waist.

1. Landmark is 5 yards in front of kicker. 2 feet to right or Left.

2. Watch the ball from the snap and block with hands.

3. Dive for the ball while laying out flat and parallel with the ground-do not hit the kicker!!

4. You must believe you are going to block the punt.

5. All punt blocks are automatic returns. Opposite the block.

6. A blocked punt can be picked up and advanced-on fourth down pick up the ball and try to advance it regardless of the risk-on third down cover the ball, but do not attempt to advance.

7. A partially blocked punt that crosses the LOS is a punt it is our ball so be ready to call PETER.

8. When blocking a kick we must get off the LOS on the snap-watch the ball the entire way an]) take the ball off the punters foot. The kicking game will often cause the turning point in a game by putting a team in the hole-there is no other phase in the game that gives us a better opportunity for a big play-every kick is a chance to make a great play! This is a place for guys who will give 100%-do everything with the intent of causing a fumble, blocking a kick, throwing a key block and score with the kicking game.

• Cadence: COLOR, #, COLOR, #, SET, GO

– Any color (except GREEN or BLUE) = Kick

• Holder flash hand to center when ready. • Center will snap when he is ready and line will step inside with

inside foot. • Guards will step behind the heels of the center, but do not over

step inside or we will shorten the corner. – Tackles & ends will step up and in with their inside foot. – Everyone must keep body square and bring face and near shoulder

into the gap inside – Non-rush side wing will pivot on outside foot, circle away from play

and stay even with the ball in case of a blocked kick

• Force all rushers outside and do not move your outside foot!

1. Missed FG’s are treated the same as punts. Everyone becomes a defender as soon as the ball is

kicked. The holder is the right safety and the kicker is the left.

2. A missed or blocked FG that crosses the LOS can be returned.

3. The holder is responsible for having 11 men on the field.

4. Do not jump or line up off-side. KEY THE BALL, not the defender. Ends will check to see that we are lined up correctly.
