“TITHES AND OFFERINGS” INTRODUCTION: God has established how his people (Christians) are to finance the work of the Lord, with tithes and offerings. We are not to finance God’s work by: chicken or fish dinners, car washes, cookies, cake, bake, and candy sales, raffles or bingo, etc. But through the plan God has given us tithes and offerings.

HISTORY: In biblical days God required, commanded his people to tithe unto him (Leviticus 27:30, 32 & 34; Deuteronomy 14:22-26). The Levites were descendants of Levi, who was one of twelve sons born to Jacob. God chose the Levites to work in the temple (church) to do the work of God. When Israel entered the Promised Land, people were given their own land, but the Levites were not. They were dedicated to the work of the Lord (Numbers 18:23-24).

What is a tithe? The word tithe means tenth, believers are to give a tenth of their increase.
