L.R. PUNSALAN & ASSOCIATES was established in 1974 in fulfillment of the desire of its principal organizer and associates to have a venue with which they could fully utilize their mechanical engineering background, specialized training and experience in the field of mechanical engineering designs and consultation works.

Engineer Laurentino R. Punsalan, Professional Mechanical Engineer, PSME member, the first Filipino Fellow of the American Society of Heating Refrigeration Air-conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), and an Asia-Pacific Economic Conference (APEC) Engineer, is the prime mover of the company. Since its establishment the firm has accomplished a creditable number of engineering design and consultancy services, notably in its specialty line of air-conditioning and refrigeration. The company has had previous involvement in diesel electric power plant design, various mechanical processes, steam and hot water production, compressed air plants, fuel systems, and project stud-ies on cogeneration systems and thermal energy storage systems (TESS) The company designs mechanical systems not only to make them better, but also to make them energy efficient. Currently, the company is spearheading awareness and encouragement on the consideration of Green Building Design as a design approach. Engr. Laurentino R. Punsalan has led in discus-sions on the nature and effects of global warming and has introduced design concepts in order to realize operations and cost efficiencies. He also spearheaded the creation of Energy Standards for HVAC in the country. Members of the management and design staff have educated themselves on the merits of green building principles, standards and rating systems.

The company is represented by teams of Management, Administrative, Design Engineering, Design Management and CADD production staff, all of which contribute to the effort of producing the best design products. Operations are fully computerized for documentations, calculations and design drawing productions, all of which are managed by a central networking and file server system. For security of documents we have instituted routine remote backing-up of files. Since earning our certification for ISO 9001:2015, we have been continuously improving our operations and structure to give the best service we can offer.

Management of the company is handled by five (5) partners with Engr. Laurentino R. Punsalan being the Managing Partner. The other partners, who are Principal Designers of the company, are: Engr. Cezar P. Punsalan, Engr. Emmanuel C. Punsalan, Engr. George F. Palafox. Archt. Emelito C. Punsalan is the Quality Representative and architect for the company. Each partner has his, field of expertise and specialization in the sphere of HVAC design, and management role in the organization.

L. R. Punsalan and Associates has been involved in the design of HVAC systems for various applications that required controlled indoor temperature and relative humidity including dehumidification, contaminant control, indoor air pollution control, and cleanroom conditions. The applications include, among others, healthcare fa-cilities, pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities, and semiconductor and electronics manufacturing facilities. The design firm is well‐versed with international HVAC standards such as the ASHRAE Standards and guidelines, Green Guide for Healthcare Facilities, Good Manufacturing Practice Guidelines, ISO Contamination Control Guidelines, NFPA Life Safety Codes, and other pertinent codes and guidelines. Incidentally, the ASHRAE/AIA Guidelines for Hospitals is the main reference used by the Joint Commission International for their accredita-tion process for hospitals and clinics. Aside from HVAC systems, the LRPA also designs systems for the allied utilities such as steam generation and boiler systems, compressed air systems, vacuum systems, dust collection systems, medical gases, and fuel storage and handling systems.
