During the early 80's agroup of Stanford Universitystudents and alumni decidedto come together out of amutual love of Jazz , akaAfrican-American ClassicalMusic.

The original workshop con-cept was a weekly sessionwhere friends would practiceand learn the music they lovedand appreciated. As wordabout the Jazz Workshop gotaround, the members weresoon requested to perform atparties and weddings. Thename Potential was chosen,and thus the Potential JazzEnsemble was born.

Those who wanted totest or sharpen their skillsattended the "clinic" atthe Costano School onApril 19, 2006. The clinicreviewed the basics forcoaches, volunteers, andparticipants so that theywill be better prepared forthe main event.

Who is participating?The meet is sponsoredby our own Kiwanis Clubof the East BayshoreCommunity and aidedand abetted by severalother Kiwanis Clubs upand down the the SouthBay Peninsula.

We'd like to get all thelocal schools to comeout, so we're going tocreate a special trophythis year for the schoolwith the most points. Thetrophy will also be inmemory of OfficerRichard May, who was areal champion of kids.Points come from win-ning events, but the morepeople from a school thebetter the chances ofwinning the trophy.

There are lots of eventsso there's lots of opportunityto win. Each participant canparticipate in one track andone field event as well as beon a relay team (of 4 run-ners.)

The events are open toany child from 5 to 14, but toparticipate requires that aregistration form be filled outwith all the relevant personaland medical informationsigned by parents orguardians.

If you can't find a form atyour school then call one ofthe Kiwanis members,Court, Arnold or Medawhose numbers are listedbelow and they'll get youone.

All participants will get a T-shirt, and winners will getawards in addition to thepossibility of a school trophy.So come out and supportyour school, your local com-munity, your local Kiwanisclub and yourself.
