Miss Danae
I really don’t know if there are actually words in the dictionary that could adequately describe what a blessing Danae has been to us at THE OLMALAIKA HOME! Almost a year ago she contacted GVM about wanting to go to the home after graduating with her Social Work degree – she would do her internship while there and then stay for almost a year volunteering at the home and community by providing counseling, tutoring, teaching and more. Danae joined us on the July mission trip and then moved into the home. She has just completed her first month at the home and is already making a huge impact. Internet is very limited for her, but we have been able to txt just about every day. She has been working on blogging and once she has a chance to get it online we will share the site so that you can all be a part of the home through what she shares. There are some financial needs that come with her being there and one of those is the visa – she will be able to re-new it once which will take her through another 90 days, but after that she is required to leave the country and then return again to get another visa. The visa rules state that she cannot just visit a neighboring country, so we need to raise funds for a flight to possibly South Africa or thereabout. If you would like to
help with her ticket please let us know.

September means back to school time! In Kenya the schools go on holiday for the month of August so all 28 girls were back under one roof. With Danae there, Evaline, our head matron, was able to go on a month’s leave back to her family home in Kilgoris with her children and husband. The girls spent the month learning to better their English language skills, volunteering at the Sekenani Primary School picking up trash (15 full buckets), working in the garden and just plain having fun like all children should! Today they benefited from their hard garden work and were able to pick 3 watermelons. Danae txted me the following, “"Today at lunch we cut and ate the first three watermelons from our garden. The girls were so excited they started eating the rinds while I was cutting the rest of it!!" Lots of memories are being made!

Administration Annex ~ We are currently using two rooms in The Olmalaika Home for the office and supplies, plus a room for the interns to work in. If we can raise $60,000.00 we will be able to build an Administration Annex right next to the home which will free up the two bedrooms in the home for 16 more girls. We have had several girls who have needed to move in but we just have not had the space for them. The annex will provide a place for interns to stay, plus an official office, storage area for supplies, counseling and tutoring rooms, plus a kitchen and bathroom with indoor plumbing. We currently have had a little over $7000 come in.
If you would like to cover the cost of an entire room in memory of someone, we would be more than glad to put a special plaque on the door with “naming rights.”
Bunk Beds ~ We have filled all the beds with little girls and still need 13 more bunks built as we have faith that the funds for the annex will come in and we will be able to use the rooms now being used for the office and interns. Each bunk costs $235 and that includes transporting them down to the home from Nairobi.
It is because of each of you that these girls are safe and have the opportunity to go to school.
Thank you for making a difference ~

From Kim’s heart…..
I have a huge burden that I want to share with each of you. We are coming up on the time of year when hundreds of little Maasai girls live’s will be changed by enduring female genital mutilation. Some will not live through it. I am imploring you to make a difference…..
16-24 girls will be safe from genital mutilation (FGM) and early childhood marriage if we can build the annex. We need $53,000 which means that…..
….if 530 people would donate just $100 OR ….if 265 people would donate $200 OR ….if 106 people would donate $500 OR …if 53 people would donate $1000
We would have what we needed to build it. Those simple donation ensure the safety of 24 little girls. Please pray about it and give the gift of life, of education, and the gift of love. Thank you for all you do and continue to pray for us as we reach out to communities across Kenya. Kim xoxo
