What are the KS1 SATs?

• Children are assessed in:ReadingWriting (including spelling)Mathematics

• In KS1 the emphasis is on teacher assessment, the test results are used to support this judgement.

Levels

•  W = Working towards level 1

• Each level has subdivisions:C – just entering the level, not yet secureB – secure in the levelA – secure and moving towards next level

• National Average for end of Year 2 → 2B

• Level 1 and 3 subdivisions are not shown on KS1 SATs results.

The Results

• Results are reported to the LEA (Local Education Authority)

• All results will be reported on your child’s end of year report.

When will the SATs take place?• Reading and Maths:4th week of this half term (12th - 16th May)

• Writing and Spelling:1st or 2nd week back after the half term holiday (2nd - 6th May) or (9th – 13th)

• Phonics Check will be repeated with some children in mid June.

What can you do to help?• Read with your child for at least 5 minutes everyday

asking questions about the text.

• Everyday Maths – telling the time, money, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division. This can be practical such as when you are shopping, eating sweets etc.

• Practice weekly spellings in sentences.

• Any extra activities children enjoy doing related to their learning e.g. games on the computer.
