“Love sustains everything. Love is the foundation of the Universe.”-Amma

A farewell was organized for the out going students on 7th April 2010.

Dr. Eswaran, Head, Vedanta Institute graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The

Correspondent, the Dean, the Associate Dean and the Chairs of all the

Departments blessed the outgoing students with their inspiring and advising

words. The students were administered the Hippocratic Oath of Engineers by the

Associate Dean Dr. Rakesh S. G.

Pre-final year students, Shomir Dutt and Meenakshi raised the toast

for their seniors and the reply to their toast was given by two out going students

Nikshep Apasangi and Lakshmi Nair.

The farewell meet concluded with cultural programs including music,

dance and drama.

Amritakalanjali ‘10

The Annual Cultural Festival, ‘Amritakalanjali’ was held on 8th and 9th

of April 2010. The theme of the fest was ‘The Glorious Period of Indian History’.

For the first time the fest was held at an inter-campus level. The fest was

inaugurated by the Chief Guest Ms. Pallavi M. G. and Mr Arun Kumar, popular and

versatile musicians. The ceremony was presided over by the Correspondent,

Dhanraj Swami, and the Assoaciate Dean, Dr. Rakesh S.G.

The event began on a high note with the fine performance by the

Chief Guests, with Mr Arun Kumar playing magic on drums and Ms. Pallavi singing

at his music. The overwhelming response from all the Amrita Campuses added

excitement and spirit of healthy competition to the galore of fun filled events held

on these two days. The valedictory function, held on 9th evening, rewound the

extravaganza of the two-day celebration of talent and creativity inherent in the

students. The chief Guest for this event was Mr. Vinay Chandra Menon. The

ceremony closed with the prize-distribution, recognizing the excellence exhibited

by students in various events.

Amritotsava ‘10

Institution Day, ‘Amritotsava’10 was celebrated on 9th April 2010. The

ceremony was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Dr. Wooday P. Krishna, Member,

Karnataka State Disaster Management Authority. The function was presided over

by poojya Swami Amritageethanandapuri, the Correspondent, Br. Dhanraj and the

Associate Dean, Dr. Rakesh S.G.

The Associate Dean, Dr. Rakesh S.G. presented the Annual Report on

all curricular and extra-curricular activities of the school.

’Sanchita’ the college magazine was released on this occasion. The

Newsletter of the Mechanical forum was also released. The ceremony ended with

distribution of prizes and concluded with a Vote-of-Thanks by Dr. Sangeetha Iyer,

the HoD, CSE Dept and Chairperson, Amritotsava Organization Committee

Inter Campus Sports Fest 2010

In the 4th Inter-Campus Cricket Tournament (10th – 12th April 2010)

held at Ettimadi campus, the team from ASE Bangalore repeated the history by

winning the match against team Ettimadai. Bangalore team beat Ettimadi team by

5 wickets. Tejaswy (47runs) and Mohit (30 runs) were the major contributors in

the 134/5 target put up by the Bangalore team. In response to this, Ettimadi

could make only 129. Tejaswy was awarded the Player of the Match.

Bangalore Campus also won the Overall 2nd Place in the Inter-

Campus Swimming Competition.

ASE Bangalore bagged the place of Runner-up in the Football match

held at Amritapuri Campus.

ACROM: The Robotics and Mechatronics club of ASE Bangalore

ACROM: Amrita Club for Robotics and Mechatronics was set up in

March 2010 to give flight to the scientific fervor much needed in engineering

students.

The club conducted its first workshop on “Basics of Robotics” on 14th

April 2010, and was attended by over 60 students. The student members Mr.

Niipun Kumar, Mr. Kiran G. and Mr. Sagar conducted seminars on fundamental

topics like “Mechanical Drives”, “Sensors”, “Actuators” and “Basics of

Microcontrollers”.

The event also showcased various projects by students on Robotics.

The club has planned Hands-on training as the next event.

To mark the world dance day on April 29th, SPIC MACAY conducted a

week long series, “MUDRA - A Celebration of Indian Classical Dance Forms” from

21st to 30th April. This series was inaugurated at Amrita School of Engineering,

Bangalore on Wednesday, the 21st April in the college premises.

SPIC MACAY aims at introducing traditional Indian culture to the

youth of this country with a hope that the beauty, grace and wisdom embodied in

it, dating back to antiquity will become an integral part of their life, whatever their

dreams and aspirations may be.

Padmashri Darshana Jhaveri, a Manipuri dance exponent and her

troupe performed on this occasion depicting the myriad elements of Manipuri

dancing and drum playing.

A technical paper by Prof. S. Ravishankar titled “ MAP-MRF Estimation for

Multiresolution Fusion of Remotely Sensed Images” has been accepted for

publication and presentation in 2010 IEEE International Geoscience and

Remote Sensing Symposium (IGARSS) to be held from 25th to 30th July 2010

in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA

A technical paper by Prof. S. Ravishankar, titled “Multiresolution Fusion in

Remotely Sensed Images: Use OF Gibbs Prior and PSO Optimization” has

been accepeted for publication and presentation in “2010 IEEE International

Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (IGARSS)” scheduled for 25th –

30th July 2010, Honolulu, Hawaii, USA .

A technical paper titled “ A Reliable Anti- Counterfeiting Technique Using

Lossless Code ” by Santosh Hariharan and V. Naveen Kumar ( VI semster

students) under guidance of Prof. S. Ravishankar has been accepted for

publication and presentation in the International Conference on “Image

Processing, Computer Vision & Pattern Recognition (IPCV’10)” that will be

held from 12th to 15th July 2010 in the USA.
