Our Collection and its Framework

The collection is designed for a man who wants an independent, small batch brand that will broaden his style horizon but not push him out of his comfort zone.

All Kovalum shirts (t-shirts, short sleeves, and long sleeves) are cut for a trim silhouette, thereby achieving contemporary style with the cut as well as the fabric.

Our Model

We’re delighted to have Kawa Ada as our model. Kawa is a rising young actor in Toronto. Educated at The Boston Conservatory, he has performed on stages in Canada and the US, including being cast on Broadway in Bombay Dreams. Coming up, he will be starring in Iceland at the Factory Theatre and appearing in Carried Away on the Crest of a Wave at Tarragon. Toronto's NOW Magazine named Kawa one of only eight "Artists to Watch" in 2013. Kawa was born in Kabul, Afghanistan.

Our Location

Many of the photos you see here were taken on location in Toronto at Carmen, a new Spanish tapas restaurant on Queen West in Toronto. Others were taken on Queen Street or at Trinity Bellwoods Park in Toronto and in live settings.

Short Sleeves

We offer a selection of short sleeve cotton shirts in the classic masculine colours of navy blues, tans, and whites.  

Each colour has three printed fabric styles that move from a more conservative style to an edgier one, thereby giving shoppers a range of choice.  

On the rack, the garments can be grouped by colour, allowing the shopper to easily examine each colour group with its internal style range and select those shirts he is comfortable with.

Long SleevesFor our long sleeve casual dress shirts, Kovalum provides the modern man with an entire range of patterns and styles and have a turnkey solution made up of classic cuts, collars, and colours for both business and casual.  Or he can buy a few shirts and complete his wardrobe gradually.

Our vests are made by our Hong Kong tailor with the finest 100% wool. Kovalum has the two classic styles--navy blue pin stripes and light grey glencheck, shown here with our light blue tab collar dress shirt and white club collar shirt.

T-Shirts

Kovalum continues to offer the classic shallow v-neck t-shirts in

white and navy blue.  Neither has any external logo, printing, or

imagery as we sense that men now want clean, uncluttered looks for their t-shirts, free of any

messaging.  The special appeal of these garments is their

bamboo fabric that makes for a very soft but durable garment.

Our jackets and t-shirts are proudly made in Toronto, Canada at facilities that I visit. This allows Kovalum to closely monitor production quality.

Our shirting is made by an established tailor in Hong Kong with whom I have conducted business for over twenty years.

Because we are a small designer, all of our products have limited production runs, thereby ensuring quality and exclusivity.

MADE IN CANADA

OUR NAMEKovalum is named after the legendary beach at the southwest tip of India in the state of Kerala.

INVESTING IN OTHERS

A portion of all proceeds from each purchase will be forwarded to support the Saint James Orphanage for girls in Alleppey, Kerala, India. This orphanage provides an upbringing to approximately thirty girls. It has been operating for over sixty years and is operated by the Carmelite nuns of Alleppey.
