Our university was accredited in November, 2000, and launched with the name of Korea Cyber University in 2001 to

play a leading role in domestic higher education online. In June, 2012, it became a family member of Soongsil

University, the nation’s first university, and reshaped itself as Korea Soongsil Cyber University (KCU) to further

strengthen its status as the pioneer of online education.

What is a cyber university?A cyber university is a university at which students can take courses and receive bachelor’s degrees via the Internet. In 2000, the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development (now re-named the Ministry of Education and Science) approved what it called a “long-distance university” through which students can obtain regular university or college degrees. With a cyber university, students can pursue higher-level education regardless of time or place.

What is the difference between the KCU and a regular 4-year university?The biggest difference is that KCU courses are not confined to a particular time or place. It is possible for students to study college-level education via the Internet without attending classes. It saves both time and costs that would be incurred by traveling back and forth to classes.

Is it possible to go on to postgraduate study after graduating from the KCU?Yes. After graduating from KCU, many students go on to study at the graduate schools of their Consortium schools, including Soongsil, Yonsei, Korea, Sogang, and Ewha Women’s Universities.

Are university entrance test scores necessary to apply?No. Our evaluation of applicants is based solely on their study plans. Study plans are accepted online only, together with an introductory statement explaining the purpose of their future study and career plans.

What are the computer skills/programs required?The University provides all programs necessary for students to listen to lectures. If the computer model supports the programs that the University offers, there is no problem with listening to lectures while web-surfing or using Microsoft Word.

Is it possible to take classes on Smartphone as well?Korea Soongsil Cyber University(KCU)is the nation’s first university to give support to students to make possible all their coursework, such as application for school admission, signing up for courses, course-taking, and grade confirmation, etc. in mobile environment for busy company worker students so that they can acquire a degree through classes during commuting ��"��"��|�$��"��Z��"��"�4��file(99% over overall classes opened)for the first time in the country since 2002. Therefore, it’s possible to acquire a degree by taking courses through the Smartphone and lecturing file for about 2 hours a day required in commuting.

How are the school exams and homework submitted?The university’s principle is that all learning activities, including exams and homework, are conducted online. Exams are conducted via the internet on a pre-set date. Some professors may asks their students to submit the results of tests and homework by ordinary mail.

How are the lectures conducted?All KCU lectures are conducted via the Internet. The lectures are developed in different formats that include video clips, HTML, PPT and flash. Multi-channel activities using quizzes, discussions and team projects are also encouraged for dialogue between professors and students. Students can freely contact their professors via e-mail or by posting their queries on online bulletin boards.

Is it okay not to attend school at all? Although there are no offline lectures, there may be offline classes in cases where students need to engage in real-life training. However, such courses are not mandatory so students may skip them. Such optional courses also include seminars, offline meetings and activities through student unions.

Is it possible to graduate early?A total of 140 credits are required to graduate from the school. Since students can take up to 48 credits a year(including summer and winter schools), they can graduate one or two semesters earlier if they meet other requirements for early graduation.

What scholarships are available for students?KCU offers a variety of scholarships to help promising students. Provides various tuition reduction or exemption benefits to all new and transfer students.

Is it possible to gain access to KCU lectures even after graduation?Anyone who has graduated from KCU will continue to be allowed to access the contents of lectures as far as they are directly related to his or her major. The monetary value of this service amounts to several million won a semester.
