NEWS KOPENHAGEN FUR IS EXPANDING ITS LOGISTICS SOLUTIONS

Shipping Directly to ChinaOver the past 4 years, Kopenhagen Fur has in collaboration with A.P. Moeller/Damco, and with great support from both brokers and customers, successfully developed an efficient logistics system with the aim of serving our customers in China with a flexible and fast solution at low costs, when skins sold at the auction must be brought quickly to the manufacturers. The solution has until now been based on the use of Kopenha-gen Fur’s warehouse in Hong Kong, where skins could be stored safely on customers’ demand until they were to be further processed. This solution has provided optimal proximity to the market. The success is massive and still more customers are looking for similar solutions in the People’s Republic of China. Therefore, Kopenhagen Fur and Damco now introduce shipping solutions based on delivery directly from airport termi-nals in Hong Kong, Beijing and Shanghai. During 2014, Kopenhagen Fur also plans to es-tablish warehouses in Beijing, Shanghai, Tong Er Pu as well as in the area of Guangzhou to facilitate future accessibility of skins closer to the manufacturers. These initiatives are now supported by the fact that A.P. Moeller/Damco sets up a Global Fur Division, which ultimately has the aim of supporting our customers’ needs for global transportation of skins to China, re-gardless of where they are purchased. The Global Fur Division will eventually be able to transport finished products to the export markets as well.

Expanding in GlostrupDue to the development of these services, together with the strong and positive devel-opments in the skin inflow from 21 million to 25 million in just the past year - a trend that seems to continue, Kopenhagen Fur has already started the first phase of a major construction project of 12,000 m2 in Glostrup to create space and an optimal flow of skins coming to and leaving the auction house with the aim of optimizing our customer service in this area. We are also setting up a logistics organization in our China office, as a supplement to the organization already in place in Hong Kong, and in Glostrup we have employed extra staff to ensure the best possible service. With this in place, we are con-fident that we can offer our customers a future-proof service with transport directly to China where upon request, Kopenhagen Fur can offer our customers consulting services concerning imports.

These factors also mean that the former external shipping agents who have had part of their organization in rented offices at Kopenhagen Fur, from which they have serviced customers not using Kopenhagen Fur’s logistics solution, are now vacating the address at the end of July. Kopenhagen Fur has thus taken over the tasks previously performed by these companies while the skins are still in Denmark. There is a contractual agree-ment between Kopenhagen Fur and the shipping agents, so that customers wishing to continue their cooperation with these companies can do this and should not experience a cost increase. It will merely be Kopenhagen Fur performing the work until the skins have left our address and not as previously external shipping agents.

As Kopenhagen Fur is confident that the future fur industry in China requires optimal logistics solutions that can respond quickly, flexibly and efficiently, Kopenhagen Fur and A.P. Moeller / Damco are now investing in this. We will, if needed, continuously adjust our services in relation to the needs of the Chinese fur industry and we will follow up on our service offerings directly with our customers. Many customers mentioned about their true needs of industry standardized logistic solution to achieve fair and stable fur market development with efficiency and effectiveness. We agree that this is what one of the world’s most important fur markets needs for the future, and therefore we would like to build this future together with our Chinese stakeholders.
