This week our focus for PBL are our expectations of behaviour while playing on the oval. These expectations are underpinned by the core value Safe.

During our Monday afternoon assembly, our students demonstrated little difficulty in explaining the expectations, particularly areas of the playground that are out of bounds due to restrictions in visibility.

Next week our focus is on the expectations of behaviour when using the verandahs. Our focus is based on our latest data set from the end of Term 1.

We’ve definitely hit the ground running this term with so many extra curricular activities on our calendar. At times it appears a little hard to catch up and keep abreast of all the events. Please keep yourself abreast of all coming dates either through our weekly newsletter publication, our Facebook page, text messages and electronic school sign.

This Thursday is our annual P&C Mother’s Day stall in Mrs Chegwyn's classroom. Students will purchase during the first session. All items are $5 each. Students will purchase one item first then, when all classes have purchased, additional items will be available. To view the selection of gifts available, please go to our school’s Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/pg/kootingalpublicschool to view the Mother’s Day photo album.

The Federal election is set for Saturday 18th May. Regardless of the outcome and who we vote for, Kootingal Public School’s P&C is hosting a cake stall. Donations of cakes, slices, biscuits and anything sweet can be made on Friday 17th May prior to the end of the school day. Donations are also gladly accepted early Saturday morning. Our P&C are also looking for volunteers to help ‘man’ the stall on the day. More hands make light work. If you can assist, please contact the school.

Saturday 1st June, the P&C are hosting a Trivia Night. This fantastic night is scheduled to commence at 6.30pm for a 7pm start of trivia rounds. Tickets are $15 per person with a maximum of 8 per table. Tickets are available from our school’s front office and can be purchased individually. All proceeds are going towards furthering the opportunities of all students at Kootingal Public School.

Our students in Year 3 are continuing their Drumbeat program with the Tamworth Aboriginal Medical Service on Fridays. I know our students enjoy this program immensely and can’t wait for their turn.

This week trials for the Open Soccer teams will occur on Friday. Our winter sporting program is hotting up with trials already conducted for the respective softball and rugby league teams. Our students must ensure they are aware of when trials are taking place and see the respective teachers if absent. Our teams are hotly contested for selection.

This week our students in Year 2 commenced at Djembe program with the Tamworth Conservatorium. Our Year 2 students are exceptionally fortunate for this program as it is completely free for them. Our students enjoyed their first taste of the djembe drum and are looking forward to it next week. Also as a part of this program, we have six Stage 3 young men participating in a didgeridoo program. While I could hear our students playing the didgeridoo, unfortunately I didn’t get any photos this week. Look out for next week’s newsletter and Facebook post.

Good luck to Miss Magann and Miss Booby as they take our 3/4 and 5/6 netball teams to the NSW Netball Cup. In 2018, we have a very successful carnival and we are envisaging the same type of success, along with a lot of fun for our children. Our teams have been actively training throughout the break times with and without teacher assistance. It just goes to show you that everyone enjoys the game of netball and can’t wait to have a go. Well done Kooty!

Today Kootingal Public School supported the Department of Education’s Adopt a Farmer initiative. This initiative was held nationally this Wednesday. Students dressed in casual clothes with a gold coin donation with all proceeds going to Rural Aid. We raised just under $200. Thank you everyone for your support.

SPOTLIGHT ISSUE 3 2019

AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT • Dav was diagnosed with dyslexia and ADHD

as a child and was so disruptive in class that his teachers made him sit out in the hall every day.

• In second grade Dav created a comic book about a superhero named Captain Underpants. His teacher ripped it up and told him he couldn’t spend his life making silly books. Fortunately for us, Dav was not a very good listener.

• His Captain Underpants series has sold more than 70 million copies and been translated into more than 28 languages. He’s also written the Dog Man series, Mighty Robot series, The Dumb Bunnies, Dog Breath, Kat Kong, Dogzilla, World War Won and so many more!

Trallalala!!! It’s…

AGES 6+ Get ready, get set and race! Matilda and Olivia have a super-amazing idea for Recycling Week at their school! They get their whole class to make box cars so they can race each other! But why hasn’t Bethany made a box car?

AGES 10+ The story of my life! One day Greg will be rich and famous, and everyone will want to know his life’s story. But is Rowley really the right person to be writing Greg’s biography? What could go wrong?

AGES 7+ Can Dog Man answer the call of duty? When Greg the police dog and his cop companion are injured on the job, a life-saving surgery changes the course of history, and Dog Man is born. With the head of a dog and the body of a human, this heroic hound has a real nose for justice.

AGES 3+Are penguins always polite? Penguins are always polite, they always wait their turn and they always say ‘please’ and ‘thank you’. But Polly decides that being polite is boring! Will Polly learn the importance of manners?

Perfectly Polite Penguins Georgiana Deutsch
