Qualifications1. Nationality and Academic Requirements

1) Freshman ApplicantsAll applicants must meet both of the following requirements: (1) Applicants have graduated or are expected to graduate from accredited primary and

secondary schools overseas (2) Applicants and their parents are foreign nationals without Korean citizenship

2) Transfer ApplicantsIn addition, transfer applicants must meet one of the following requirements:(1) Applicants have completed or are expected to complete at least 2 years of a 4-year

undergraduate degree program with at least 50 percent of the credits required for graduation at an accredited Korean or foreign university with good academic standing

(2) Applicants have graduated or are expected to graduate from a 2- or 3-year associate degree program at an accredited Korean or foreign college with good academic standing

2. Language Proficiency RequirementsAll applicants must submit one or more of the following documents:

1) TOPIK report with Level 3 or above

2) Korean Language Program Completion Certificate issued by Konkuk Language Institute with Level 3 or above

※ All students must acquire TOPIK Level 4 or above to graduate.

3. Important Notes1) Admissions for both freshman and transfer students require academic records from schools

accredited under the education laws of their respective countries. The following courses and exams do not meet the requirement: language courses, university preparatory courses, continuing education courses, adult university courses, correspondence courses, online courses, high school diploma equivalency exams in the U.S. or Canada (e.g. GED), and China’s Higher Education Self-taught Examination (高等教育自学考试).

2) Applicants with Korean citizenship (or a parent with Korean citizenship) cannot apply for Konkuk University’s undergraduate program as an international student, even if he/she (or his/her parent) has citizenship of another country. Applicants (or parents) who gave up their Korean citizenship must provide certificate of resident registration cancellation as proof of evidence.

Application Process1. Online Application

3) “Application Category (지원구분)” on the Application Form ☞ Choose “Freshman (신입학),” “Transfer (편입학),” or “Dual-Degree (복수학위)” first, then select

“College (대학)” and “ Unit (모집단위).”

4) Applicants cannot apply for a major related to their native language. For example, a Chinese student cannot apply for the Department of Chinese Language & Literature.

5) Applicants should upload their color photo taken at a studio for the online application.

6) All required spaces must be filled out on the online application.

7) Applicants should provide their valid and frequently-used email address. Important information and updates will be sent by email and it is the applicants’ responsibility to check their email accounts regularly.

8) Changes or cancellations cannot be made after the online application deadline.

9) Applications without the required documents will be rejected.

[Note 2] Documents No. 22-24 requiring Apostille or Korean Consulate certification can be submitted by February 2, 2018. Konkuk University will not issue the Standard Offer of Admission required for visa until the documents are submitted. If the required documents are not received by the deadline, the university will rescind admission.

3. Notes on the required documents1) If any false, incorrect or omitted information, missing documents, or misdeeds are found during

the application process, the applicant will be held responsible and will be disqualified.

2) All required documents should be prepared and submitted as instructed.

3) Unless stated otherwise, all submitted documents will not be returned.

4) The name of the applicant should be written on the bottom right of each submitted document.

5) If the applicant’s name is not identical across all submitted documents, an official document explaining the name change must be submitted.

6) Documents not issued in Korean, English or Chinese must be supplemented with Korean or English translations.

7) Notaries should be official institutions authorized by the government of the applicant’s home country.

8) Documents related to academic records must be notarized within 24 months. Documents related to nationality and family relations must be notarized within 12 months before submission to be considered valid.

9) Certificate of degree and/or graduation may be authenticated with an Apostille or by a Korean Consulate.

10) Additional documents may be requested as necessary.

11) Original documents regarding academic records issued by Korean universities do not have to be notarized.

12) Upon the recommendation of the Director of Konkuk Language Institute, applicants enrolled in Konkuk Language Institute at the time of application may submit a photocopy of their high school transcript instead of a notarized or consulate-certified version.

13) Applicants for a dual-degree or transfer program under an agreement between their home institution and Konkuk University may submit a photocopy of their high school transcript and/or an original copy of their transcript for two-years of courses at their home institution instead of a notarized or consulate-certified version.

Selection Process1. Overview

☞ Evaluation of art portfolios is included in the selection process for applicants for the College of Art and Design. ☞ Korean proficiency will be assessed based on either Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK) taken within

2 years or the Korean language program completion certificate issued by Konkuk Language Institute with Level 3 or above.

2. Notification of Admissions Decisions 1) The list of accepted students will be posted on Konkuk University’s website (www.konkuk.ac.kr)

in due course. Results will not be notified individually.

2) All accepted students must read the ‘Important Reminders’ section attached to the post.

3) All important information will be announced on the website of Konkuk University’s Office of International Affairs at abroad.konkuk.ac.kr. (국제처 ☞ 학부유학생 입학/관리 ☞ 학부유학생 입학 ☞

3. Tuition Payment 1) Accepted students must pay their tuition between January 2, 2018, 3 p.m. and January 9, 2018,

2) The tuition must be paid in Korean won. Foreign currencies are not accepted.

3) Notification of admissions decisions and tuition invoices can be printed from Konkuk University’s website.

4) Applicants who decide not to matriculate after paying their tuition must visit the Center for International Faculty and Student Services in person by January 19, 2018. ☞ Accepted students must matriculate once they receive the Standard Offer of Admission or start the visa

application process.☞ If accepted students cannot obtain a Korean visa, their admission offer will be automatically revoked.

4. Others 1) Applicants may be rejected for any of the following reasons:

(1) Lack of required documents(2) Any incorrect and/or falsified information (3) Illegal residence of applicants or their parents in Korea (4) Poor academic performance or lack of financial support (5) Any misconduct considered significant

2) Details of the selection process will not be disclosed.

3) Issues not mentioned in the admissions guidelines will be governed by the regulations of the Korean government and bylaws of Konkuk University.

Korean Language Courses 1. Korean Language Courses

1) Students in Category A must complete Practical Korean 1 and 2.

2) Students in Category B must complete Practical Korean 3.

3) Students in Category C are exempted from taking Practical Korean courses, but should take regular courses.

4) Placement will be decided on February 22, 2018 when all TOPIK reports and Korean Language Program Completion Certificate are received.

2) For Current StudentsStudents who successfully obtained more than 15 credits and with good academic standing will be awarded scholarships ranging from 20% to 100% tuition waiver.

3. Expenses 1) Mandatory Health Insurance

Upon admission to Konkuk University, every student is required to have personal health insurance, which costs approximately KRW 150,000 per year. Student who fail to purchase health insurance will face disadvantages, including ineligibility for scholarships. Detailed information will be provided during the new student orientation.
