Much more than a pretty face…

There’s a reason we feature a picture of all of us in our workbook every year. For more than 40 years our team has been able to build a solid reputation for product quality and performance. Here are some statistics that speak to the quality of the employee community we work and play within:

Currently over a thousand years (almost 2 million hours) experience sewing and sealing the best technical paddling apparel in the world. All of it made one-at-a-time here in Arcata, California.

We are launching a new custom suit application called GIZMO on www.kokatat.com. Designed to allow consumers to build a custom GORE-TEX® dry suit (colors, size and options), purchase it through an authorized Kokatat retailer and be on the water styling their unique new look in 3-4 weeks. GIZMO was also designed to give retailers a simple tool to determine the optimum stock or custom suit size in store. In Arcata, we have a team of sewers and seam sealers, fondly named “The Pod”, who are exclusively dedicated to producing hundreds of custom dry suits each year.

Customer satisfaction is in our DNA. As an ISO company, all of our business practices are focused on the changes and process improvements required to ensure the satisfaction of you, our customers. Kokatat Hydrus 3L waterproof breathable fabric

New for 2013, Kokatat is introducing Hydrus 3L (3-layer) a waterproof breathable three-layer fabric designed to keep paddlers completely dry in extreme conditions. Available in bold new colors, the super tough nylon woven outer layer provides long lasting abrasion protection and features a durable water repellent (DWR) coating which repels water. The mid-layer utilizes a proprietary polyurethane micro-porous coating, allowing water vapor to transfer from the inner layer to the outer. GORE-TEX®Kokatat and W. L. Gore and Associates have worked together since the first introduction of GORE-TEX® fabrics in the mid 1970’s to develop the most durable and breathable paddle sports dry wear. GORE-TEX® fabric is designed to be waterproof, windproof, breathable and maintain its performance for the useful life of the product. The microporous structure of the GORE-TEX® membrane and over 40 years of paddling apparel manufacturing experience in Arcata is what makes Kokatat dry suits durably waterproof. Each microscopic pore is about 20,000 times smaller than a drop of water and 700 times bigger than a water vapor molecule. Water can’t penetrate from the outside and perspiration can easily evaporate from the inside. Kokatat is the exclusive global supplier of paddlesports GORE-TEX® dry suits. Each dry suit is water tested in Arcata and is guaranteed for life to the original owner (see warranty statement for details).

POLARTEC®Polartec® Power Dry® fabrics are designed to keep your skin dry when you sweat. Ideal for paddlers, all fabrics in this series feature a patented bi-component knit construction that uses different yarns on either side of the fabric. This creates two different surfaces: one that is optimized to move moisture away from the skin, the other to dry quickly. Polartec® Power Dry® fabrics feature body-hugging 4-way stretch and are very breathable. The smooth outer layer is wind and abrasion resistant; the soft inner layer pulls moisture away from your skin keeping you dry, warm and comfortable.

Kokatat’s complete collection of paddling insulation apparel features Polartec® fabrics, including our latest BaseCore and OuterCore collections. These Kokatat Polartec® insulation products are manufactured in California and have been developed with the US economy and environment in mind.

WARRANTYKokatat products are fully guaranteed to the original owner for the life of the garment against defects in materials and workmanship. Products found to be defective will be repaired or replaced as determined by the Kokatat service department. Repair due to normal wear and tear will be made for a reasonable fee. Latex gaskets are not covered by the Kokatat warranty. Kokatat specifically disavows any other representative warranty or liability relative to the condition or use of the product.

first layer: moisture movementA thin garment next to the skin, like our Polartec® Power Dry® BaseCore or WoolCore (pictured), wicks the body moisture away from the body, keeping the skin dry and decreasing evaporative heat loss.

second layer: insulationThicker pieces, like our Polartec® Power Dry® Liner and OuterCore insulate against the cold and move moisture away from the body. The thickness of this layer is determined by conditions and your level of activity.

third layer: protective outer shellThe outer garment protects against incoming water, wind or sun. Kokatat’s dry suits, dry tops, paddling jackets and pants will do just fine, thanks.

The art of dressing for watersports is a matter of choosing the right tools for the job and using them properly. Kokatat garments are technologically sophisticated but, more than that, they make a complete system that balances heat loss with heat production and adjusts to deal with conditions that can change by the hour or the season. Layering offers the best way to do this.

A layered system of garments finds its strength in versatility. Each layer performs a specific function and can be mixed and matched to adapt to different conditions. Kokatat garments are the ingredients of a multi-layered system that fits well, won’t restrict your movement and weighs almost nothing. A good layering job goes something like this:

What’s GIZMO?! Visitors to kokatat.com will be able to design their own custom GORE-TEX® dry suit, have it hand-tailored to order and purchase through an authorized Kokatat custom suit dealer for shipment within 3- 4 weeks. Consumers can create their own unique combination of colors from a palette of 13 different varieties and add custom features including pockets, hoods, reflective tape and custom embroidery.

The first step is to select your suit. Consumers can select from the three most popular dry suits in the business. Choose the GORE-TEX® Expedition, Meridian or Front Entry dry suits, the only paddling dry suits in the world available in GORE-TEX® fabric, all built to Kokatat’s exacting standards in Arcata, CA, USA.

Next, link to a database driven dry suit sizing application, which provides step-by-step instructions for body measurement, incorporating photographs illustrating correct measuring techniques. Simply enter measurements into each form field to be stored in a data base. The tool back end will accumulate the data, verify it against Kokatat’s standard size measurements and determine the size of suit, with custom lengthening or shortening as required.

At this point the fun starts. Consumers will be able to design their own custom color combination simply by clicking on an image of the suit and selecting from the color palette displayed. Add some options and you’re done.

Well, not quite… consumers will be able to save their custom suit for review later, PRINT a copy of the suit with all custom data to hang on the fridge or carry to their local Kokatat dealer. BUY NOW at a select group of Kokatat’s on-line retail partners. That’s GIZMO!

Kokatat garments are sized with ample room for ventilation and to be comfortable over an insulating layer. For all stock product please refer to the stock sizes in the sizing chart. All dimensions are in inches; for metric sizing please go to our website.

If you don’t fit into the stock sizes, Kokatat can add and subtract length in the sleeves and arms, and add length to the torso of stock sizes.
