Why we do
For promoting global citizenship
Need to keep building support for sustainable development
from the future generation in Korea
• Agenda in the international community
- Global Education First Initiative, UNESCO midterm strategy, SDGs

For promoting global citizenship
KOICA ODA Education Centre (since 2010)
- Established as the first professional education institution in
Korea to raise public awareness and understanding of int’l dev
cooperation and to train specialists working in the field
- Provides various education programs for global citizenship
- Major activities
• Special lectures, Education for Student Clubs, and Essay contests for
school students
• GCED Teacher Training both online and offline for school teachers
• Lectures and Dissertation competition for university students
• Customized course for small and medium enterprises who wants to
enter into ODA industry
• KOICA-NGO Development Education Workshop
• ODA Certificate

For promoting global citizenship
KOICA Global Village (since 2010)
- Enhances public understanding of diverse culture and local
information in KOICA’s partner countries
- Introduces KOICA and enlightens public the necessity of ODA
- Induces visitors to take actions as a global citizen in partnership
with local governments by a variety of experience programs
- Delivers global citizenship education in conjunction with
exhibitions
- Major activities
• Exhibition (about 10 months, different country each time)
• GCED for elementary school students
• Food culture experience

We move exhibition stuff to World Friends
Korea Education Center in Young-wol,
Gangwon Province after the regular
exhibition in Global Village in KOICA HQ so
that local people also can enjoy the Global
Citizenship Education

students
Every year around 42,000 visitors enjoy
exhibition and 7,000 students experience a
variety of food culture in KOICA’s Global
Village.

For promoting global citizenship
KOICA Development History Hall (since 2015)
- Commemorates South Korea’s extraordinary development path,
transitioning from an aid recipient to a donor in only half a
century
- Increases the public understanding of how our country has
developed with foreign assistance during the transition period
- Shares more than 270 historical records and videos
- Provides visitors with Korean and English docent program
• Visitors are mainly from developing countries and universities in Korea
on request.

Going
forward Boost the quality of the education and strengthen
expertise
- Developing the education program and textbooks
- Improving the quality and quantity of the instructors
- Adding depth to the education with mores research
Build an integrated platform for GCED
- Strengthening partnership with GCED organizations in Korea and GCED
organizations overseas
- Eliminating the gap between understanding of global issues with
students/teachers in local areas and in capital regions
Disseminate GCED gradually by focusing on each target
- Promoting GCED within the public education system, and in the sectors
outside the public education system in Korea
