ChampionsKNPB is fortunate to have an excellent base of support in our service area. Each year at its
January meeting, KNPB’s Board of Trustees makes time to recognize the KNPB Champions for the previous year. Each champion has provided exceptional support to KNPB. The 2013 class of KNPB Champions has set a high standard for all of us to achieve.
KNPB’s 2013 Foundation Champion award recipient is the Nell J. Redfield Foundation. This foundation’s name is familiar to area residents due to its consistent, generous leadership giving to a variety of needs and causes. Through lead trustees Jeane Jones and Gerald Smith, the Redfield Foundation has provided important financial support for KNPB’s on-air and off-air educational programs and services along with overall station operations.
The 2013 Corporate Support Champion was Northern Nevada Coin. As annual sponsors of Antiques Roadshow and our program listings since 2011, Northern Nevada Coin through its owner Allen Rowe has generously invested in this region through its gifts to KNPB.
Lisa Carano was named the 2013 Board Champion. As chair of our Special Events committee, Lisa has been the driving force behind our successful Aged to Perfection galas as well as Silver Circle donor events. Her leadership and selfless contributions along with her advocacy for KNPB make her a treasured member of our board.
State Senator Greg Brower received special recognition as our 2013 Legislative Advocate of the Year. As a KNPB board member, Senator Brower provides helpful insight and advice on issues affecting KNPB, the state’s broadcasters and non-profit community.
2013’s Outstanding Production Volunteer is Laney Olson. While a student at UNR, Laney volunteered in our production department, demonstrating her considerable talents and becoming a valued member of our team…on top of a full schedule of classes.
KNPB’s Membership Champion recognition goes to a group of volunteers—our direct mail ladies! This wonderful team comes to KNPB to sort, stuff, address and stamp our monthly mailings. Several of them also volunteer at our community outreach promotions and events. Thanks to Della Richardson, Juanita Bean, Brook Marlowe, Anita Travers, Connie Hastings and Marge Carroll. They have nothing but fun supporting KNPB and we couldn’t do what we do without them.
All across central and northern Nevada and northeastern California, dedicated people donate their time, talents and treasure to make our service strong and vibrant. You are all KNPB Champions!
“When I look at our stations around the country, there are a handful of stations that are truly extraordinary—I would say almost legendary. And KNPB happens to be one of those.”
– Paula Kerger, President & CEO of PBS
