II. RATIONALEFORPROGRAM

• ThestateofOhioisthethirdlargeststateformanufacturingjobs.OneinfivejobsinOhio's

Region6lieswithinthemanufacturingindustry. • AccordingtotheBureauofLaborStatisticsJobOutlookforMachinists,“Overallemploymentof

machinistsandtoolanddiemakersisprojectedtogrow7percentfrom2012to2022,slowerthantheaverageforalloccupations.Employmentgrowthwillvarybyspecialty.”

• AccordingtotheBureauofLaborStatisticsJobOutlookforMachinists,“Employmentofmachinistsisprojectedtogrow9percentfrom2012to2022,aboutasfastastheaverageforalloccupations.Despiteimprovementsintechnologies,suchascomputer-numericallycontrolled(CNC)machinetools,autoloaders,high-speedmachining,andlights-outmanufacturing,machinistswillstillberequiredtosetup,monitor,andmaintaintheseautomatedsystems.”

machinistsandtoolanddiemakersshouldbeexcellent,asemployerscontinuetovaluethewide-rangingskillsoftheseworkers.Also,manyyoungpeoplewiththerighteducationandpersonalqualificationsneededtobecomemachinistsandtoolanddiemakersprefertoattendcollegeormaynotwishtoenterproductionoccupations.Therefore,thenumberofworkerslearningtobemachinistsandtoolanddiemakersisexpectedtobesmallerthanthenumberofjobopeningsarisingeachyearfromtheneedtoreplaceexperiencedmachinistswhoretireorleavetheoccupationforotherreasons.”

III. PROGRAMDESCRIPTION

TheManufacturingTechnologyProgramwillpreparestudentsforcareersinmachinetoolstechnologies.Thisprogramwillprovideafundamentalfoundationofmachinetradesprinciplesandoperations.Itwillstressanddevelopstrongconventional(manual)machiningoperationsfollowedbycomputerapplications(ComputerizedNumericalControl,CNCandComputerAidedManufacturing,CAM)usedinmodernmanufacturingandstudyoffuturetechnology.Indepthclassroomandhands-ontrainingonsuchmachinesasDrillPresses,Lathes,Mills,Grinders,andSaws.AssociatedinstructiononHand-tools,PrecisionMeasurement,BlueprintReadingandGD&T,MaterialIdentification,ShopSafetyandComputerApplicationswillalsobeincluded.Thecurriculumwillincludeclassroom,demonstrationandhands-onlabwork. Studentswilldeveloptechnicalknowledgeandskillsrequiredforacquisition,retention,andadvancementinamanufacturingcareer.AllinstructionwillfocustowardstheNationalInstituteforMetalworking(NIMS)certificationtesting.TheprogramcontentmatchesrequirementsasestablishedbyNationalInstituteofMetalworkingSkills(NIMS)

Utilize“WorkKeys”assessmenttestingforpre-enrollmentevaluation.UtilizeNationalInstituteforMetalworking(NIMS)standardsforduringenrollmentassessment.Aswellassubjectandmoduletesting.TheNIMScertificationwillbethefinalassessment.

X. EVALUATIONPLANTODETERMINEPROGRAMEFFECTIVENESS

TheNationalInstituteforMetalworkingSkills(NIMS)willbeutilizedtoevaluatethetraining.InstructorswillbecredentialedthroughtheNIMSsystem.AllinstructionandlessonplanswillbefocusedonNIMSstandards.ThestudentswillhavetheoptiontotaketheNIMSlevel1test.

LINKAGETOOTHERPROGRAMS

TheManufacturingTechnologyprogramisanentrylevelprogramdesignedforpersonnelwithlittletonoviceexperienceinmanufacturingtechnologyandleadstraighttomoreadvancedprogramsofferedbyhigherinstitutionsoflearning.ArticulationagreementsbetweenCentralOhioTechnicalCollege(COTC)andNorthCentralStateCollege(NC)willbepursued.

XI. TRAININGPATHWAYS

A. Before:Acareerpathwaysystemisaseriesofconnectededucationalandtraining

programsandsupportservicesthatprepareandenableindividuals,oftenwhiletheyareworking,tosecureajobandadvanceovertimetosuccessivelyhigherlevelsofeducationandemploymentinaspecificindustry/field.Pathwaygoalsaretoincreaseaccess,awareness,affordability,resources,andalignmentforhighschoolstudents,adultlearners,andthecurrentworkforce.TheKnoxCountyCareerCenter,CNCManufacturingTechnologyprogramisanentry-levelprogramdesignedforlearnerswithlittletonoviceexperienceintheManufacturingfield,thosewhoalreadyworkinthefieldandwishtoenhancetheirskills,orthosewhosimplywishtoenteraManufacturingcareerpathway.Priortoadmissionpotentiallearnersmusthavethefollowing:
