2014 marks 100 years since the start ofthe First World War. As part of thenational centenary we are joining in withthe events commemorating this epicperiod with a fascinating new exhibition,‘Local Heroes, Distant Voices’. The exhibition presents the fascinatingstories of individual soldiers, and we haveso many to tell that they wouldn’t all fitinto one venue! The exhibition will open simultaneously in HuytonGallery and Knowsley Park Centre for Learning inFebruary and then move to Kirkby Gallery and Prescot Museum in August, so as to show andcommemorate more stories and local histories as part of the exhibition.

The exhibition tells the personal stories of Knowsleyservicemen, women and individuals affected by warfrom the late 19th Century onward, covering militaryconflicts up to present day.

Taking centre stage in the exhibition will be thepresentation of ‘Local Heroes’ from Knowsley, alongside a wealth of interesting historical andcontextual information: learn more about the area’smilitary connections, add your own stories and bringthe distant voices of your ancestors back for all to hear.
