Innovation York is the innovation office for York University. The unit provides services to faculty members, trainees, students, industry, and the
community in five service streams. Innovation York's goal is to facilitate and maximize the commercial,
economic, and social impacts of research and innovation, and to create a culture of engaged
scholarship and experiential learning.

• Review and negotiate all forms of research agreements & commercialization agreements for technologies where Innovation York is the commercialization manager
• Executed 494 agreements valued at ~$28 million in FY 2015/16

• Joined Innovation York in the Summer, 2016 • A national leader with an international reputation in connecting
research and people. • Since 2006, the unit has supported over 475 requests for
collaboration, which has resulted in over 150 projects and over 100 collaborative activities.

• Find industry partners for academic research and development
• Find academic partners for industry research & development
• Initiated more than 100 industry interactions, which assisted in obtaining 29 grants and more than $19,000,000 in research funding in FY2015/16.

• Act as commercialization manager to commercialize innovations developed by faculty members and trainees
• The unit typically reviews ~15 invention disclosures a year • Currently have 20 active commercialization projects • Incorporated 4 startup companies, bringing our total of active startup
companies to 8.

• Through our entrepreneurship program LaunchYU, engaged 1345 entrepreneurs, delivered 36 presentations and workshops, and have supported 40 ventures.
• Have 2 incubator spaces, one in Markham where we supported 10 startup companies in FY2015/16 and one on campus to support early stage collaborations.

Provide Knowledge Mobilization support to all York faculty, staff and graduate
students engaged in policy and practice relevant research

Some Definitions
Knowledge Mobilization (KMb) is a suite of services that enhances the two-
way connection between researchers and community stakeholders so that
research and evidence can inform decisions about public policy and
professional practice.
KMb encompasses methods of knowledge transfer, translation, and exchange
but extends these concepts to include the co-production of new knowledge.
