    A knowledge test is a set of questions or a

    series of tasks that candidates answer orally or

    in writing. In our context written test has two

    parts

    Multiple choice &

    matching

    Factual- recognition & recall of facts Comprehension- interprets, translates,summarizes or paraphrases given

    Refer the Evidence Plan Developed and the

    identified Evidence Gathering Tools.

    Then cover all evidences marked as

    knowledge/written

    Identifying the Knowledge that underpins competent

    performance (measures depth & breadth of

    knowledge)

    Do not construct puzzling items in which hidden

    meanings or subtle clues provide the correct answer.

    Focus on the underpinning knowledge (

    knowledge in the mind of a person that

    supports his practical activity)

    Formulate questions in application level

    as much as possible (Give a

    situation/case to assess thinkingcapability of the candidate)

    The stated problem should be specific, clear,

    & brief as much as possible & ambiguous

    should be eliminated.

    Dont construct puzzling items with hidden

    meanings (dont use jargon words)

    Dont lift questions directly from books.

    Make sure that no item can be answered

    simply by referring to other items.

    Note: this three types of knowledge test itemare hierarchical (higher level subsumes scopeof the lower level)

    The stated problem should be specific, clear,

    and brief as possible.

    Illustrations are sometimes useful in

    presenting the central problem. Have four choices or options.

    Do not include responses that are obviously

    wrong or irrelevant.

    When negative response is desired, be sure to

    make it clear by making it bold the negative

    word/s. Use capital letters to label the options or

    choices.

    Matching

    1. Use homogenous or related materials in any one

    exercise (Definition of terms, steps, procedures,

    identification of symbols etc)

    2. The longest statements must be in the left

    column and the shortest in the right column3. Use illustration whenever possible.

    4. Add at least three or maximum five

    destructors

    5. Be sure that no question out of the

    Occupational standard

    6. The entire exercise appear on one page

    Note: Make the assessment tool economical &time manageable as much as possible (with

    no underestimating the standard)
