    Red Heart Classic by Coats & Clark, 3.5oz/100g skeins, each approx

    190yds/174m (acrylic)

    1 skein each in #0003 off-white, #0730 grenadine, #0737 pink, #0917 cardinal

    One pair size 10 (6mm) needles OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE

    GAUGE16 sts and 24 rows = 4"/10cm over St st using size 10 (6mm) needles.

    TAKE TIME TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.

    NOTES

    1) Use a separate bobbin for each color section. Do not carry yarn across back of

    work.

    2) When changing colors, twist yarns on WS to prevent holes in work.

    SQUARE

    With off-white, cast on 50 sts.

    Knit 6 rows.

    Beg chart

    Row 1 (RS) K3, work row 1 of color chart across next 44 sts, k3.Row 2 K3, work row 2 of color chart across next 44 sts, k3.

    Cont to work chart with first and last 3 sts in garter st for border and rem sts in St

    st until 55 rows of color chart have been worked. Cont with off-white, knit 6 rows.

    Bind off.

    Yarn needle

    GAUGE

    21 sts & 28 rows = 4"/10cm using size 6 (4mm) needles over St st.

    TAKE TIME TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.

    SQUARE

    With cherry red, cast on 63 sts.

    Knit 6 rows.

    Next row (RS) Knit.

    Next row K3, purl 57, k3.

    Rep last 2 rows until piece measures 11"/29cm, end with a WS row. Knit 6

    rows. Bind off.

    I-CORD HEARTS

    With off-white and dpns, cast on 3 sts. *Knit 3, do not turn. Slide sts back to

    opposite end of needle; rep from * until I-cord measures 22"/56cm from beg.

    Bind off. Make 2 more I-cords, 1 each 30/76cm long, 36"/91cm long.

    FINISHING

    Place shortest I-cord in center of square, to form a heart. Sew in place. Repeat

    with middle size cord, then with largest cord, forming 3 concentric hearts.

    I-CORD

    With dpns and off-white, cast on 4 sts. *K4, do not turn. Slide sts back to opposite end

    of needle; rep from * until I-cord measures 13"/33cm from beg. Bind off.

    With dpns and grenadine, cast on 4 sts. *K4, do not turn. Slide sts back to opposite end

    of needle; rep from * until I-cord measures 20"/51cm from beg. Bind off.

    FINISHING

    Using I-cord diagram as guide, place off-white I-cord around inner edge of heart, sew in

    place. Place grenadine I-cord around outer edge of heart, sew in place.

    Kfb Knit into front and back of st1 st increased.

    Notes

    1) Pink is used every third row over the center 40 sts only. On these rows,

    Row 4 Purl.

    Row 5 K1, kfb, kfb, k16 sts.

    Row 6 Purl.

    Row 7 K1, kfb, k to 2 sts before end of row, kfb, k18 sts.

    Row 8 Purl.

    Rep last 2 rows until there are 38 sts across.

    Work in St st for 9 rows.

    Row 36 Ssk, k15, k2tog, turn. Place rem 19 sts on holder.

    Row 37 P2tog, p to 2 sts before end, p2tog15 sts.
