1 KNIGHTWATCH January 8, 2016 FROM THE PRINCIPAL . . . Adam Kirsch Let’s Go… Show Christ-like Character I have been a fan of former UCLA coach John Wooden since I got into teaching and coaching a number of years ago. I am a fan of his, not only because of his coaching philosophy, but also because of some of his wise adages. One of my favorites illustrates an important concept for us, especially in relation to our faith “Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are.” This saying didn’t come from Christ, but ultimately speaks volumes about how he conducted his ministry on earth. The time that he spent on earth was not filled with glitz and glam, but a simple message translated through timeless teachings and His actions. There were many who thought that Jesus was something other than what he ended up being and his reputation suffered but not his character. We point to Christ as the example and model of character honest, kind, selfless, and loving. This is what we are asked to emulate. The message of Christian character can be seen in the words of the theme verse for the week from Romans 8 “You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him.” We are called to live a life that is different from the world often this means that our reputation can suffer. We seem odd, different, anti-culture. But that does not matter. The only thing that matters is our recognition that our Savior does not look at outward appearances, but only the matters of the heart (our character). We can take confidence in the fact that our God continually grants us his grace in spite of ourselves and gives us opportunity to live in the Spirit. Let’s Go!

KNIGHTWATCH

January 8, 2016

Let’s Go –

Let’s Go With Confidence

How confident are you?

I have found that there is a fine line between confidence and arrogance. This line is

blurred when you look at individuals who are often in a position of power or authority

– politicians, athletes, celebrities, pastors, teachers, and even principals. The world

continues to share the message that pride and self-assurance are one of the ways to get

ahead in this world, but as Christians we recognize that “pride comes before the fall”

(Proverbs 16:18).

So what are Christians to do? Are we called to waver when confronted with

challenges or to meekly go about our business? Absolutely not. We are, however,

called to place our confidence in something outside of ourselves. We are called to put

our confidence not in our own power, but in the power that has come as the Holy

Spirit has gifted us with authority.

We go out in the world, not scared or ashamed of who we serve but in full confidence

that He goes alongside us – protecting us, guiding us, and upholding those who trust in

Him. We go with the Word of God as an offensive weapon understanding that it, and

it alone, has the power to transform lives. We go with confidence understanding that

we “can do all things through Him who gives us strength” (Philippians 4:13). May we

receive the authority of God and go out with the assurance that, in Him and through

Him, we can serve with confidence. Let’s Go!

Let’s Go…

Let’s Go… Show Christ-like Character

I have been a fan of former UCLA coach John Wooden since I got into teaching and coaching

a number of years ago. I am a fan of his, not only because of his coaching philosophy, but also

because of some of his wise adages. One of my favorites illustrates an important concept for

us, especially in relation to our faith – “Be more concerned with your character than your

reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what

others think you are.”

This saying didn’t come from Christ, but ultimately speaks volumes about how he conducted

his ministry on earth. The time that he spent on earth was not filled with glitz and glam, but a

simple message translated through timeless teachings and His actions. There were many who

thought that Jesus was something other than what he ended up being – and his reputation

suffered – but not his character. We point to Christ as the example and model of character –

honest, kind, selfless, and loving. This is what we are asked to emulate.

The message of Christian character can be seen in the words of the theme verse for the week

from Romans 8 – “You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of

God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him.” We

are called to live a life that is different from the world – often this means that our reputation

can suffer. We seem odd, different, anti-culture. But that does not matter. The only thing that

matters is our recognition that our Savior does not look at outward appearances, but only the

matters of the heart (our character). We can take confidence in the fact that our God

continually grants us his grace in spite of ourselves and gives us opportunity to live in the

Spirit. Let’s Go!

SNOW DAYS In the event severe weather conditions would occur, please check one of the local media

outlets for information on school closings. Our recommendation is that you check the WTMJ website

(www.todaystmj4.com) for the earliest and most up-to-date information. Other media outlets broadcasting school

closings include:

Television: WTMJ-4, FOX-6, WISN-12, CBS-58

Radio: 94.5 KTI Country, 620WTMJ

Internet: fox6now.com/weather, WISN.com, cbs58.com

Since our students come from many parts of the metropolitan area, weather conditions may vary from one area to

another. Please use discretion in sending your child to school even though school may be in session. A guideline to use in

making your decision would be the decision that your local public school district has made. (Example: If you live in

Cedarburg and the Cedarburg school district has closed due to the weather, consider keeping your child home from school

that day.)

In the event that a sudden snowstorm forces school to close before the regular closing time, make certain that your child

knows exactly where to go and what to do should no one be home during the school day.

ATTENDANCE PROCEDURES . . .

Absences must be reported to the Attendance Office at (414) 461-6062 or [email protected] by a

parent/guardian prior to 9am on the day of the absence. A written excuse must also be submitted to the Attendance

Office on the day the student returns to school.

PARKING LOT SAFETY: For the safety of all our students and parents, please find below a few reminders about

dropping off/picking up your student(s) in the morning and after school.

1. When picking up after school, please DO NOT park between the orange cones. This area is designated for the buses.

2. When dropping off in the morning, you may pull up next to the canopy or next to the parking lot. Please DO NOT stop

in the middle of the driveway – this causes congestion.

3. Please drive slowly at all times and watch for pedestrians crossing.

4. Please use extra caution between 7:40am to 7:50am.
