Lenten Almsgiving project aka Baby Bottle program - Our third annual "Baby Bottle" campaign officially ended on Palm Sunday weekend with the formal collection of our “bottles”. As of the end of May, we are pretty much done with collections as no more bottles seem to be coming in. So, our “wrap up” total of donations this year stands at $12,215. That’s a rather remarkable total from a very generous group of people at St. Thomas a’Becket parish! AAA Pregnancy Resource Center is thrilled with the result and send their heart felt thanks. In three years now, this council has helped raise over $37,000 for this Culture of Life activity. Outstanding!

Pancake Breakfast committee - Our 2016/2017 fraternal year pancake breakfast schedule came to an end with our May 7th “Mothers Day” breakfast. Thanks to our breakfast committee headed up by Joe Nader and Ron Fournier, and all those who volunteered to work our breakfasts, for a job well done this year. We finished the year earning just over $2,700 in net profit for the council and donated 545 lbs of food to local food banks. Nice work, men!

Kern Council Summer Golf league - We have completed the first four weeks of our summer golf league and are now on our “Memorial Day break”. We will resume golfing on Monday June 5th. We added a couple more full time players this week to bring our total number of golfers this year to 32. That’s our self imposed “max” due to daylight conditions for an evening league like ours. This is only the second time in 14 years that we’ve had that many players. Co-captains, George Peters, Mike Goodhart and Ed Harkins are happy with the season so far and are looking forward to lots of “good times” for our golfers as we progress through our 15 week season. For more information on our league and to stay up to date with news during the season, check our website regularly at:

2017 Council Golf Outing - ATTENTION Golfers! Registration is now open for our 2017 golf outing on August 19th at Fellows Creek Golf Club in Canton! Get more information and download registration forms at our council website (link below). All proceeds go to support the St. Vincent DePaul Society. All levels of golf skills welcome. This is a "for fun" golf outing. Please consider joining us this year! (See flyer attached.) http://www.kofc8284.org/annual-golf-outing.html

Kern Council family dinner #2 - Kern council brothers and family members enjoyed another family dinner out this past Friday, May 26th at Rose’s Restaurant in Canton. It’s strictly social and fun. The food was great and the company was even better!

Other May council business - A $250 donation was approved for the Cure for Cancer Walkathon. $500 was approved as a donation to the Ann Arbor St. Vincent DePaul Society thrift shop to assist after a suffering through a fire earlier this month. Six new aprons for our various food events are needed and approval was granted to spend $120 on those new aprons. $200 was approved for the State of Michigan license fee for our next charity poker event in September.
