January 3, 2020 Dear Laramie County Beef, Swine, Sheep & Goat Exhibitors & Families, All market beef, sheep, swine, and goat will be tagged at home by the 4-H family then tracked in the 4-H Online system. All tagging and online entering must be complete by February 1st for Market Beef and June 1 for all other species. If you are not familiar with the tagging process we have resources to help you. The Wyoming State Fair has transitioned to RFID tags for all species. These tags will only fit in the grey Y-Tex Ultra Tagger Plus. Please see the steps below that are required to complete the tagging process. If you need assistance enrolling in the 4-H online system, uploading pictures into your child’s profile, or navigating the tagging process for any reason, please contact the Extension Office. There is also updated information and resources on the 4-H website below. This includes the steps for entering the animals into 4-H Online.

Brand Inspections are required on all market beef animals and market sheep. The brand inspection must be issued in the youth
name.
Born & Raised at Home forms can be used for breeding beef, breeding sheep, market goat, and market swine. These can be picked
up at the Extension Office or found at: http://bit.ly/1WsB2IY
All animals must be in the youth’s name to be sold.
The Wyoming Livestock Board has policies in place regarding the importation of animals into the State of Wyoming. Please follow
the link to these regulations: http://bit.ly/2pY7jgw. These regulations are not new.
Sheep and Goats
Scrapie tags are required on all sheep/goats. Wyoming requirements can be found at: http://bit.ly/23KWLdN
If you purchase market animals from out-of-state please note:
o Animals coming into Wyoming need to have an official Scrapie ear tag in their ear. They should be put in the ear by the
breeder. Additionally, the vet that inspects the animals before they are shipped to Wyoming should be calling the Wyoming
State Vet’s office to get an import permit number that is placed on the health papers (CVI).
o A link to USDA official ear tag requirements for ALL species is below. (Section 22, Pages15-16 are most applicable to 4-H market
sheep/goat projects from out of state). http://bit.ly/2oDWQCg
o If a sheep/goat arrives in Wyoming from out-of-state without an ear tag, the 4-H member should contact their local veterinarian
to inspect the animal and manage any other additional requirements. Again, these are for sheep/goats that are shipped into
Wyoming from another state.

If you do purchase swine from out-of-state please note:

inspect the animal and manage any other additional requirements. Again, these are for swine that are shipped into Wyoming
from another state.
o If you bring cattle across county lines, you must have a Brand Inspection. (see Livestock Travel Brochure)
o If you bring cattle across state lines, you must have a Brand Inspection “A” form or “L” Form. As well as a health inspection
from a licensed vet that is written within 30 days of travel.
2020 4-H Beef, Market Sheep, Meat Goat and Market Swine Tagging Procedures 1. Tags will not be distributed to any 4-H youth not in good standing. This means all 4-H fees and enrollment must be completed, prior
to tag distribution.
2. When tagging swine, sheep, beef, or market goats at home, tags will be distributed to youth after they have provided a copy of their
proof of ownership. For Beef and Sheep, this must be a brand inspection. For Swine and Goat, this can include a Bill of Sale, Brand
Inspection, or a Born & Raised at Home Form. If the animal was purchased out of state, we will also need to see a copy of the vet
inspection.
You can scan and email a copy of your ownership papers to [email protected] or [email protected]. We will mail you the
requested number of tags.
You can bring your ownership papers to the Extension Office and pick up tags.
3. You will receive one tag per animal.
4. Youth will be responsible for tagging all market swine, market goat, market beef or market sheep at home.
Place tags in the sheep/goat/swine ear with numbers visible on the outside of ear and the button on the inside of the ear.
Place beef tags with the number on the inside of the ear and the button on the back of the ear.
Taggers are not available for check out from the Extension Office. You can inexpensively purchase taggers from most livestock
supply stores. Due to the State Fair switching to RFID tags, please purchase the Blue-Y-Tex Brand tagger or the grey Y-Tex
Ultra Tagger Plus. These are the taggers that work for these tags.
SHEEP/GOAT 5. Take 2 clear pictures per animal. Examples can be seen below.
a. One shot of the body of the lamb, goat or a side shot of the market steer or heifer showing the brand if possible. If an
additional picture is needed to view the brand, you will be contacted by the Extension Office.
b. One picture of the tags (scrapie tag & fair tag) in the animal’s ears.
6. To submit your tagging information you must upload your information into your 4-H Online account. (Where you enrolled for 4-H.
You must be enrolled to complete this process. You will also need to be sure that you have paid your $10 4-H Enrollment Fee). Enroll
at http://www.4honline.com/.
a. Log-in to the youth’s account and click the Animals/Livestock Link, which is located next to the Enrollment link.
b. Select the Market Sheep, Market Beef, Swine or Meat Goat option and click Add Animal. Be sure to get the right species
entered under the right project option (sheep under market sheep or goats under meat goats).
c. Enter your animal information
i. Fair Tag Number (all 15 digits on the RFID tag.)
ii. Female or Male
iii. Breed
iv. Additional Color/Description – Enter your Scrapie Tag Number here
v. Animal Name
vi. Beginning Weight – If known
vii. Beginning Weight Date – the date you weighed your animal-If known
viii. Breeder/Producer Tag Number (or tattoo number, if any)
ix. 4-H or FFA
x. Additional Information – any additional animal description
xi. You’ll then upload your two images using the Image Select buttons
xii. Click the “I verify the info for this animal is accurate” check-box to save your
animal!
xiii. Save the Animal.
d. If a youth has multiple animals you can click the Add button after you save your
information. Add as many animals as necessary.
e. If you have multiple youth in one family be sure to enter the correct animal under each youth’s individual profile. Animals
cannot be switched between youth after June 1.
f. You can return to this screen at any time to print a copy of your tagging/animal information.
g. Be sure to start the process early and ask questions if you’re unsure!
There will be no pre-weights required for the Laramie County Fair Ultrasound contest. If you would like to compete in the Ultrasound contest with your animal, we will do the ultrasound at county fair weigh-ins.
SWINE
7. Take 3 clear pictures per animal. Examples can be seen below.
a. One picture of the left full side of the animal.
b. One picture of the right full side of the animal.
c. One picture of the animal with the ear tag clearly visible.
d. With the state fair change of smaller tags, it will be very difficult to get a clear picture of the number. Do not worry if the
picture is blurry, I want to be able to see that animal has been tagged.
8. (Are you enrolled in 4-H? You must be enrolled to complete this process. You will also need to be sure that you have paid your $10
4-H Enrollment Fee).
a. Log-in to the youth’s account and click the Animals/Livestock Link, next to the Enrollment link.
b. Select the Market Swine option and click Add Animal. Do not add other species.
c. Enter your animal information
i. Fair Tag Number (all 15 digits on the RFID tag.)
ii. Barrow (male) or Gilt (female)
iii. Breed
iv. Additional Color/Description – any identifying characteristics
v. Ear Notch (If any)
vi. Animal Name
vii. Breeder/Producer Tag Number (If any)
viii. 4-H or FFA
ix. You’ll then upload your three images using the Image Select buttons
x. Save your animal!!
d. If a youth has multiple animals you can click the Add button after you save your information. Add as many animals as
necessary.
e. If you have multiple youth in one family be sure to enter the correct animal under each youth’s individual profile. Animals
cannot be switched between youth after June 1st.
f. You can return to this screen at any time and print a copy of your tagging/animal information.

g. After June 1 you will no longer be able to upload photos. Tagging after this time won’t be valid for entry to county or state
fairs. Be sure to start the process early and ask questions if you’re unsure!
New this year, there will be a swine ultrasound contest at Laramie County Fair. If you would like to compete in the
Ultrasound contest with your animal, the ultrasound will be performed at county fair weigh-ins and you must register for this
contest with your Laramie County Fair Registration.
9. All tags must be accounted for. If you do not use all of your tags the rest must be returned to the Extension Office prior to the June 1
at 5pm deadline.
10. It is your responsibility to double check that you have completed this process prior to June 1 at 5pm. It would be a good idea to print
off a copy of your saved animals and bring those with you to fair. It is also your responsibility to ask if you have questions about this
process, your project, how to tag your animal, etc.
BEEF 11. The steps to upload information regarding beef animals is the same as all other species. Please go to the youth’s profile in
http://www.4honline.com/, and follow the steps below. All youth must be in good standing to receive tags or have their animal
tagged at centralized tagging.
h. Log-in to the youth’s account and click the Animals/Livestock Link, next to the Enrollment link.
i. Select the Market Beef option and click Add Animal.
j. Enter your animal information
i. Fair Tag Number (all 15 digits on the RFID tag.)
ii. Female or Male
iii. Breed
iv. Detailed Animal Type (additional colors/description)
v. Animal Name
vi. Beginning Weight – optional
vii. Beginning Weight Date – optional
viii. Breeder/Producer Tag Number (or tattoo number, if any)
ix. 4-H or FFA
x. Additional Information – any additional animal description
xi. You’ll then upload your two images using the Image Select buttons
xii. Click the “I verify the info for this animal is accurate” check-box to save your animal!
xiii. Save the Animal.
k. If a youth has multiple animals you can click the Add button after you save your information. Add as many animals as

All Market Beef must be tagged and all information added to 4-H online by February 1st, 2020 the updated Beef Ownership Deadline. Market Lamb, Meat Goats, and Market Swine must be tagged and all information added to
4-H online by the June 1, 2020 the Livestock Ownership Deadline.

1. Login to your 4-H Online Account and make sure you are on the youth profile of the 4-H member.
2. On the Youth Personal Information page click the Animals/Livestock link at the top left (see picture below).
3. On the Animal/Livestock Page, under the Add an Animal heading, use the drop-down menu to select Market Beef, Market Sheep,
Market Goat, or Market Swine. Click the Add Animal button.
4. Enter the animal information.
Follow the orange prompts in 4-H online
Market Beef 5. Upload one full body photo to the page showing any identifying characteristics and the brand, and a head shot photo of the animal
clearly showing the tag.
Market Sheep/Meat Goat 6. Upload one full body photo to the page of the animal showing any identifying characteristics and a head shot photo of the animal
showing both tags (Scrapie and RFID).
Market Swine 7. Upload a head shot of the animal showing the tag in the ear, a left side photo, and a right side photo. You will probably not be able
to get a clear picture of the numbers on the RFID tag. Do not worry about the visibility of the numbers as long as we can see the tag.
All Species 8. Click on the box “I verify the information for this animal is accurate
9. Save the animal. If you click cancel, your animal information will not be saved.
10. You can add additional animals using the same steps as above. When you click save it will take you back to the first page. You will
need to select animal species again. All market beef, meat goats, market sheep, and market swine the youth plans to show, need to
be entered into 4-H online.
11. If you have multiple youth in one family bringing market animals to the show, you will need to complete this process under each
youth profile.
12. It would be a good idea to print off a copy of your saved animals and bring those with you to fair.
