As NASCAR returns here for the first
time in many years, we are seeing a new kind of short track car. We are delighted to welcome the “K&N Series” for their first ever appearance at the famous ole half mile. This division of NASCAR is just another stepping stone for the future of racing. Remember these drivers. Some of them will become household names to racing fans in the near future. So far this year they have raced at Daytona, Bristol and Greenville Pickens. Thanks to NAPA for its support of this event.
Several drivers to keep an eye on will
be Ben Kennedy, Johnny VanDoorn, and female sensation Kenzie Ruston (See story inside). All 3 have an advantage with the many laps they made here at 5 Flags, and veterans of the Snowball Derby Experi-ence.
Then we have Dylan Kwasniewski, and
Brandon Gdovic winners at Bristol and Greenville. It’s anybody’s race to win.
The 2013 season is well underway and with
the patching and grinding work that has been done to the track, it just seems like every time a different division of race cars hit the track they destroy the track record. New records have been recorded in the Sportsman, Super Stock, Pro Truck, and Modifieds, along with a breath taking 13.205 seconds in the X-treme Sprint Cars set by Brian Gerster. Fans … that’s an average speed of 136.33 miles per hour! Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t believe any of the new record holders has a feature win here yet.
Speaking of feature wins, let’s take a moment to
congratulate our March 29th winners. Steve Buttrick is batting 1,000 in the Sportsman class as he is 3 for 3 in 2013. Bubba Winslow in Super Stocks, “Chopper” Stagner in Pro Trucks, Brandon Howell in Modifieds and David Johnson have managed to record early wins.
So far this season we’ve witnessed some great
racing and we certainly don’t expect any less this weekend.
#3 April 12, 2013
Just when you think it’s over, it’s not. The motor-
cycles tear up the track as a finale Saturday evening. Watch for Rob McClendon.
Keep a close eye on our web site and tune to “IN
THE GROOVE” for upcoming events. Finally, congrats to Bubba Pollard, winner of the first Southern Super Series race in Nashville.

It’s not how fast, but how far on a battery charge their unusual vehi-cles can go. Teams from Tampa to California are set to test their ideas of power in an electric car.
Gulf Power joins up with the University of West Florida to stage the competition again this year here at 5 Flags. Free to watch beginning at 10am April 27th.
Then back to gas Saturday 5 to 9pm with Twilight Drifting. There is a charge at the pit gate.

Kenzie was born in1991...i That’s barely three Presidents ago. Dale Earnhardt was well into his iconic career, working the fifth of his Winston Cup championships.
In other sports, the 21-year-old NASCAR K&N Pro Series driver would still be a young pup, her best years lots of laps ahead of her.
But, with teenagers popping up everywhere along K&N and late model pit rows these days, short-track racing is increasingly getting younger and younger.
“People always ask me, ‘Do you think you’re too old to be racing?’ I say thanks a lot,” Ruston joked. “I’m starting to get old. I’m out there racing 15- and 16-year-olds — some places younger. I’m out to prove something this year.”
Ruston has raced here nu-merous times, including appear-ances in both the Snowball and Snowflake.”I’m excited to get back to a place I’m familiar with,” Ruston said. “Pensacola is one of those places I truly love.” (Read all of Chuck Corder’s story on our web site: www.5flagsspeedway.com )
