:Our aim
Ouraimistoensurethatourprojectsareimplementedinsuchaway
thatatnotimeisthereanyriskofpersonalinjuryordamagetoproperty
ortheenvironment.Aswellasbeinganaidtothepreventionofacci-
dents,injuries,damageandadverseworkloads,thesafetyinstructions
areintendedtoensurethatwehavegoodandsafeworkingconditions.
Theinstructionsgiveyouanoverviewofoursafetyregulationsandpro-
cedures.Theydescribethechallengespresentedbythedifferentwork-
ingenvironmentsandpresentthegeneralguidelinesthatapplytoallour
employeesandsubcontractors.Additionalinformationisavailablefrom
yourimmediatesuperior.

We require our employees and our subcontractors
to familiarise themselves with our HSE regulations
andensurethattheyarerespectedandobeyed.As
oneofouremployees,itisyourresponsibilitytoen-
surethatyouhavetheinformationneededtoenable
you to perform your work in accordance with cur-
rentsafetyregulations.Allworkmustalsobeinac-
cordancewithpublic rulesand regulations. If there
is anything you are in doubt about – contact your
immediatesuperiororthesafetydelegate.
Line responsibility
ThemanagingdirectorofKlevenhasoverallrespon-
sibilityforHSEintheshipyardareaandforactivities
carriedoutunderKleven’sdirection.Intheeveryday
HSEwork,responsibilityrestswiththelineorganisa-
tion.Eachmanager is responsible forensuring that
thework isplannedandcarriedout inaccordance
withcurrentrequirements.Allrisksshallbeidentified
andanynecessaryactionrequiredshallbetaken.
Safety delegates and work-ing environment committees (WEC)
Klevenhasestablishedasafetyservicewithahead
safetydelegates,safetydelegatesandworkingen-
vironment committees. The purpose of the safety
serviceistolookafteryourinterests.Incaseswhere
HMS-organisationandresponsibility
you feel youaremakingnoheadwaywithyour im-
mediatesuperior,youshouldput thematterbefore
thesafetydelegateorthemainsafetydelegate.The
activitiesoftheworkingenvironmentcommitteeare
aimedattheestablishmentofacompletelysatisfac-
toryworkingenvironment.Thecommitteeisinvolved
in planning the safety and environmental work and
closelymonitorsdevelopmentsinmattersrelatingto
theemployees’safety,healthandwellbeing.
Reporting of undesired events (RUE)
All accidents and undesired events have
a cause, and are therefore preventable.
Klevenshallbeapleasantandsafeplaceofworkfor
youandyourcolleagues.Allundesiredeventsshall
bereportedimmediatelysothatimprovementstothe
HSEprocedurescanbeimplemented.Usetheform
‘ReportofUndesiredEvents–RUH’.Bothminorand
majoreventsmustbereported.
Remember thatwhen you report non-conformance
or undesiredevents this couldprevent such things
fromhappeningagaintoyouoryourco-workers.
Examples of what must be reported are: near ac-
cidents, faulty or defective machines and equip-
ment, falling objects, harassment in and proposed
improvementsoftheworkingenvironment.

Working Environment Act
The Working Environment Act and Regulations is-
suedpursuanttotheActareintendedtoensurethat
theworkingenvironmentprovidesprotectionagainst
physicalandmentalharm.TheActseekstoensure
that the terms and conditions of employment are
safeandthatabasisisprovidedwhichenablesthe
company itself to find solutions to challenges in its
workingenvironment.TheActandrelevantRegula-
tions shall be accessible on contacting the safety
service.
Industrial safety and contin-gency plans
Ourindustrialsafetyactivitiesarepartofsystematic
HSEworkandan importantelement inourcontin-
gencyplansaimedat increasing the levelofsafety.
Thismeansthatinadditiontothebasiccontingency
procedureswehaveestablishedthefollowing:
Ateamofrescuepersonnel
Areinforcedmedicalfunction
Areinforcedfire-fightingfunction
Asmokedivingteam
Anorderandsafetyservice
Our industrial safety functionalsohas itsowndefi-
brillator.
Our bulletin boards provide information telling you
whereyoucanfindfirstaidequipmentandfire-fight-
ingequipment,aswellasimportanttelephonenum-
bers and action plans in case of accidents. Make
sure you are familiarwith this.Near accidents, un-
desiredeventsandnon-conformanceshouldbere-
ported to your immediate superior, safety delegate
or head of HSE on the form ‘Report of undesired
events–RUE’.
Your HSE responsibility
As an employee, it is your responsibility to know
what you need to be able to perform your work in
accordancewiththesafetyregulations.Onyourown
initiative,youmustcontributetoreducingtheriskof
accidents by keeping your place of work tidy and
using the stipulated protective equipment/clothing.
Safetyequipmentmustnotberemoved,andwhere
yousee thatsafetyequipment ismissingyoumust
ensure that it is put in place. If you are unable to
rectifymatterson yourown, youmust immediately
informyourimmediatesuperiorasafetydelegate.
Your health is your responsibility
Good planning and preparations are the key to
preventing repetitive strain injuries. Learn the
correctworktechniqueandvaryyourworkingpo-
sitionwhenpossible.
Usethetechnicalaidsthatareavailable.
Learn the correct work technique – and prevent
repetitivestraininjuries.
Many short pauses are better than a few long
ones.Remembertostretchout.
Performyourworkinawaythatavoidsunneces-
sarynoiseandremembertouseearprotectorsin
theproductionzones.
Useprotectivegoggles toavoideye injuries.Use
the right typeofgoggles for the typeofwork in-
volved.
Observetheregulationsinforce.
Youareencouragedtomakeproposalstoimprove
yourworkplace.
Showrespectforyourcolleagues.
Access control
Inordertogainaccesstotheshipyardyoumustbe
registeredwiththegatekeeperandgetanID-card
/visitor’scard.Youarealsorequiredtotakean
obligatoryintroductioncourse.
Approvedprotectiveequipmentmustbeused.
REMEMBER:
You must always wear your ID-card within the
shipyardarea.
Intheeventofanevacuationyoumustregisterat
the mustering place by presenting your ID-card.
Makesureyouknowwherethemusteringplaces
arelocated.
Returnyouraccesscardandanyborrowedequip-
mentoncompletionofyouremployment/visit.
Whereaccesswithavehicleisrequired,awrittenap-
plicationwillbeconsidered.
Intoxicants
The use of alcohol, narcotic substances and other
intoxicantsisstrictlyprohibitedinworkinghours.At-
tending work in an intoxicated state is also strictly
prohibited.
Where theuseofalcohol issuspected,analcotest
maybegiven.
Infringementoftheregulationsonintoxicantwill im-
mediatelyentailexpulsionfromtheworkplace.Other
consequencesmayalsoensue.
Generalsafetyregulations
:Safety
Personal protective equip-ment
All persons who perform work for Kleven shall be
familiar with the company’s requirements concern-
ingpersonalprotectiveequipmentanditsloyaluse.
Theareawillbesignposted toshowwhat typesof
equipmentcanbeusedandwhere itcanbeused.
Makesureyouknowwhatapplieswhenyoucome
totheshipyard.
Thisapplies toall employees,visitorsandsubcon-
tractors. Protective equipment is personal equip-
ment which you are responsible for maintaining in
goodworkingorder.Damagedequipmentmustbe
replacedimmediately.
Some examples showing when protec-
tive equipment must be used:
All employees and visitors are required to use a
hardhatwhenexposedwithinthearea.
Protectiveshoesandsatisfactoryworkwearshall
bewornbyallproductionpersonnel.
Youareadvisedtowearearprotectionatalltimes
intheproductionzone.
You are advised to use protective goggles at all
timeastheeyesareveryvulnerableandsuscep-
tibletoinjuries.
Fall protection equipment shall be worn when
workingatheight.
Respiratory protection equipment must be used
when carrying out welding, burning and surface
treatment.
Whenworkisdoneinvolvingtheuseofhazardous
substances, protective equipment must be used
inaccordancewithHSEdatasheets.
Alifejacketmustbewornwhenperformingwork
from boats and quaysides, and on barges and
pontoonswithoutrailings.
Cranes and transportation All transportation shall be performed by personnel
with the necessary training and certification in ac-
cordancewithinternalandpublicregulations.Lifting
gearandequipmentshallbesufficientlydimensioned
andcertified.Ifwireropestrapsornylonstrapshave
damagedfibres theyshallbe replaced immediately,
andthenbecutupanddisposedof.
Equipmentand loadsmustbesecuredagainst tip-
pingoverandfallingout.

Narrow rooms/tanks
Wherework istobecarriedout inconfinedspaces
and tanksyoumustpayextraattention todamage
preventionandtaketherightprecautionsbeforethe
workstarts.Makesurethere issufficientventilation
andlighting.Rememberthatnooneispermittedto
workaloneintanksorconfinedspaces.
In event of uncertainty about the presence of gas
and/or an excess/deficiency of oxygen, gas meas-
urementsmustbecarriedoutbyqualifiedpersonnel.
Securing of openings
Allopenings,cutaways,pipeconduits,manhatches
andthelikeondecksandgangwaysmustalwaysbe
secured.
Showrespectforcordoningbands.
Orderliness and cleanliness
Jobsatisfaction,efficiencyandgoodsafetyworkre-
quire compliance with cleaning procedures and en-
suringthatequipmentandmaterialsarekeptingood
order.Thisappliesintheworkplace,andalsoinsheds,
storageroomsandcontainers.Ensurethatthereare
wastecontainersintheworkplace(ifnecessary,con-
tacttheservicedepartment)andtidyupregularly.
Eachpersonisresponsibleformaintainingorderli-
nessathis/herplaceofwork.
Emptypackagingandthelike,aswellasmaterials
and residual material shall be gathered together
andplaceintheallottedarea.
Gangwaysshallbetidyandfreeofallobstacles.
Greaseandoilspillsonfloors,gangways,railings
orequipmentarea risk factor.Makesure this is
cleanedupbeforethereisanaccident.
Thereshallalwaysbeunhinderedaccess tofire-
fightingequipment,alarmstationsandothersafe-
tyequipment.
Hoses and cables shall be disconnected and
coileduponthecompletionofwork.
Afteruse,bothof themainvalvesonthecutting
torchshaftshallbeclosed.
Allequipmentandtoolsshallbeputbackinplace
afteruse.
Damagedtoolsandequipmentshallbehandedin
forrepairorremoved.
Inallourprojects,smokingonboardisprohibited.
Theregulationsrelatingtowastesortingatsource
and our clean build practice must be followed.
Wastemustnotbethrownintothesea.Familiar-
iseyourselfwiththecolourcodesonthecontain-
ersandensurethatthewasteissortedcorrectly.
Ifyouareunsure–ask!
Deployedfire-fightingequipmentmustnotbere-
moved.Iftheequipmentisusedinanemergency
thismustbereportedandusedequipmentmust
bereplaced.
- Ensure that the lighting is sufficient, but do not
takedownlightsthathavebeenhungup.Ifnec-
essary,collect further lighting fromstores.Emer-
gencylightingthathasbeenhungupshallnever
bemoved.
Personsworkingonscaffoldingshallonlyhavethe
necessarytools/equipmentwiththem.Theyshall
be especially careful and maintain orderliness at
alltimes.
Work equipment
You yourself are responsible for having validdocu-
mentation showing that you have received training
intheworkequipmentthatisusedintheshipyard.If
youthinkthatyouhavenotreceivedsufficienttrain-
ing or instruction is the use of machines or equip-
ment, you must contact your superior. The work
equipment shall be controlled and maintained in
accordancewithcurrent regulations.Poororpartly
defectiveequipment,orworkequipmentwhichlacks
protection devices, shall not be used. Before the
start of work, a copy of your training documenta-
tion for the work equipment, along with underlying
documentation and certification of training, as well
as control documentation for work equipment that
issubjecttoexpertinspection,shallbepresentedto
theheadofHSEforfiling.
Special work operations
Some special work operations must be performed
in accordance with a predetermined plan in order
tocomplywith safety requirements.Youwill be in-
formedofthisbytheforemanbeforetheworkstarts.
Nohazardousworkoperationsshallbecommenced
before a foreman with responsibility for this work
hasbeencontacted.Workoperationswhichrequire
special training, such theerectionof scaffoldingor
wherehotworkisinvolved,shallonlybeperformed
by qualified personnel with the necessary training
documentation.
Beforethestartofanyworkyoushouldaskyourself
threequestions:
-Are thereany risksassociatedwith thework I am
todo?
IftheanswerisNO–youcancontinue.
If theanswer isYES–youmust thanask thenext
question: What are these risks? And what action
must I taketoavoidexposingmyselfandothersto
risk?
Safe Job Analysis (SJA)
Inthecaseofunfamiliarworksituations,aSafeJob
Analysisshallbecarriedout.Theaimof thisanaly-
sisistoidentifyanyrisksthatcanbeexpectedfrom
theworkthatistobedone,andwhatactioncanbe
takentoavoidinjuriesordamage.Contactyourim-
mediatesuperiortohaveSJAcarriedout.
Donottakeanyunnecessarychancesorshortcuts!
Work at height/scaffolding
Inthecaseofworkatheightandonscaffoldingthere
isaneedforspecialcareandorderlinessatalltimes.
Persons working at height and on scaffolding shall
onlyhavethenecessarytools/equipmentwiththem.
Alltoolsshallbesecuredagainstfallingtolowerlev-
els. Where there is a danger of falling objects, the
areabelowand the immediatevicinityshallbecor-
donedoffandmarkedwithasign.
Scaffolding shall only be erected and changed by
certified personnel. Check that the scaffolding has
beeninspectedandmarkedasapprovedbeforeyou
useit!
Remember:strapsandotherpersonalsafetyequip-
ment.
Hazardous / flammable sub-stances
All hazardous and flammable substances shall be
markedasrequiredbyregulations.Learnthemean-
ingof thehazardsymbolsonthe labels in theHSE
datasheets.TheHSEdatasheetsforeachsubstance
arefiledinaseparatesubstancedatabaselocatedin
thewarehouse.Beforeasubstanceisused,theuser
andthoseworkinginhis/herimmediatevicinitymust
beawareoftherisksinvolvedinusingthissubstance
asstatedintheHSEdatasheet.Thenecessaryac-
tionmustbetaken,alsoensuringthattheprotective
equipmentisusedcorrectly.
Injuries/illness
Ifyouareinjuredatworkorbecomeillwhichyoube-
lieveisworkrelated,youmustinformyourimmediate
superiorof thisassoonaspossible.Notificationof
sick leaveshallbegiven to theswitchboardon the
firstdayofabsence,andyouwillthenbeconnected
toyourimmediatesuperior.Notificationofillnessby
SMSmessagewillnotbeaccepted. If the illness is
duetoconditionsatwork,orhasbeenaffectedby
this, it is important that you take this up with your
immediatesuperior.
Infringement of safety regula-tions
Infringementofthesafetyregulations isaveryseri-
ousmatterandistreatedassuch.cf.WorkingEnvi-
ronmentAct,section86.Thisappliesequallytothe
company’sownemployeesandtosubcontractors.
Ifanyonebehavesnegligentlyinrelationtothesafety
regulations, or wilfully removes or damages safety
equipment, thepersonresponsible forsafety isen-
titledtoexpelthepersoninquestionfromthework-
placewithasalarydeduction.
Firstaid
:CPR
Even if an ambulance is on itsway, it is absolutely
imperative that a person suffering from cardiac ar-
restisgivencardiopulmonaryresuscitation(CPR)as
quicklyaspossible.
1.Checkifthesubjectrespondstovocalstimulus
andcarefulshaking
Ifthesubjectdoesnotrespond–shoutforhelp!
2.Openuptheairways
Lay the subject on his/her back and check the
breathing.
Liftthesubject’schinupandtilttheheadslightly
backwards with the other hand. Ensure that the
airwaysarenotobstructed.Listentoandfeelthe
subject’sbreathingforupto10seconds.
Ifhe/sheisbreathingnormally,letthesubjectliein
thesamepositionforoneminuteandmonitorhis/
herbreathing.
If youare sure that the subject is breathingnor-
mallyafteroneminute,placehim/her inastable
sidewaysposition.
Then check for other injuries that require treat-
ment.
3.In the event of abnormal or the absence of
breathing:Calltheswitchboard,thendial113
If possible, get someone else to contact the
switchboard and dial 113 so that you can start
cardiopulmonaryresuscitation(CPR)atonce.
Rememberthatwehavedefibrillatoronthesite.
CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) for
adults
StarttheCPRwith30chestcompressions,thenpro-
vide breaths by exhaling 2 times into the subject’s
mouth.
Compressions
Applypressuretothemiddleofthechest.Placethe
otherhandontopof thefirsthand.Compresswith
2 straight arms, directly downwards on the chest.
Chestcompressionsshouldbetoadepthof4-5cm
andatarateof100perminute.
Breaths
Placeonehandonthesubject’sforeheadandpinch
thesubjectsnoseshutbycompressing thenostrils
withthefingers.Thentilt thesubject’sheadslightly
backwards.Placetwofingersunderthechinandlife
thejawforward.Sealthesubject’smouthwithyour
mouth.Exhalegentlyuntil thesubject’schestrises.
Eachbreathshouldhaveadurationofonesecond
beforeyoulettheairout.
Continue in this way, administering 30 chest com-
pressionsand2breathsuntilprofessionalassistance
arrives.Changeplaceswithothers,ifthereareoth-
erspresent.
Iftheaccidentiscausedbychoking,drowningorthe
like–administer5breathsbeforeCPR.
