Ahmednagar College, the first and the oldest institution of higher education inAhmednagar District, has always been a pioneer in the fields of research andeducation. A premier institution of learning for traditional as well as new-age subjects,the name of the College is synonymous with quality education. It is a college foundedby a visionary, Dr. Bhaskar Pandurang Hivale, and built by committed and eminenteducators, Dr. Thomas Barnabas and Rev. Prof. Joseph Barnabas.

The motto of the College, Not Things, But Men, highlights the unwaveringdedication of the College to the ideals of building personalities. We strive to impartcutting-edge knowledge grounded in values, pertinent skills in relevant fields and ahealthy enthusiasm for constructive work. Because, since its inception, our institutionhas believed that tomorrow should be better. In moulding the all round personality ofthe students, we are committed to this idea of creating bright young minds that arefully capable, willing and well-equipped.

The excellence of the College is attested to by the fact that students from allparts of India come here to study - from north to south and from west to east. It isalso significant that having studied in Ahmednagar College, many then scatter acrossthe globe. The quality of the education imparted in the College is also certified byNational Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bangalore, which has awardedAhmednagar College with an 'A' grade. The NAAC committee has commended theCollege for the quality of education provided, for student support and welfareprogrammes, for excellence in research and academic activities, for the sound andenthusiastic Management and for the harmonious atmosphere on the campus. Furtherrecommendation has come also from the University of Pune in the form of the 'BestCollege Award.'

Ahmednagar College in its main campus runs a host of academic programmesstarting from XI to PhD in various subjects. The courses offered in the College arerecognized by the Maharashtra HSC board, University of Pune and other competentbodies. Ahmednagar College is the study centre for YCMOU degree courses in Artsand Commerce including a course in Journalism. The College also runs RemedialCoaching Classes for SC/ST and Minority students. There are many co-curricular andextra-curricular activities that the College enables the students to take part in. We havea well-equipped gymkhana and sports department, a theatre unit, a rock band, a hobbycentre, among others. We encourage our students to make the best use of the availablefacilities such as : placement cell, personality development and counselling cell,competitive examination cell and cultural activity centre.

Ahmednagar College Library is well known for its rich resources that becomericher each year. The Library has (men's and women's) reading halls, a conferencehall, newspaper and magazine section, museum, rare books section, journals section,reference books section and audio-video collection. The Library organizes variousexhibitions to enhance students' exposure to the latest available information andknowledge in various fields.

The College has a highly qualified teaching faculty who are committed toteaching as well as research. Many members of the teaching faculty have completed theirPhD or MPhil and some are research guides. The College has research centres in Physics,Zoology, Geography, Commerce, and Marathi. More than hundred students are completingtheir doctoral research under various research guides from the College. The members ofthe faculty are also involved in major and minor research projects sponsored by suchprestigious national bodies as ISRO, UGC, CSIR, DST, as also BCUD, University ofPune. The College also has collaboration with other research institutions. A prestigiousone among them is the tie up between the Chronobiology laboratory of Dr. D. S. Joshiof our College and the University of Regensburgh, Germany. The quality of the researchunderway in the College may be gauged by the fact that many of our teachers havepublished their research findings in reputed national and international journals. Some ofour teachers have written textbooks and reference books. Many are on various academicand administrative bodies of various Universities including Senate, Academic Council,and Board of Studies.

The College has excellent infrastructure for both learning and living. We havewell equipped laboratories, conference halls, syndicate room, independent set up forresearch centres, large classrooms and a large computer lab. The playgrounds are spacious.There are hostels for men and women students, mess facilities, common rooms, healthcentre, extension counter of bank and consumer stores.

To the north of the main campus are located the ISWR and IMSCDR, sisterinstitutes of the College offering courses in Social Work, Communications, Managementand Computers. The College is the sole training centre in the Western Region for NSSofficers. The College has the base of the 17th Battalion of the NCC.

A dream sown at the dawn of independence in India has grown into amagnificent tree in its six decades of progress. Headed by Dr. R. J. Barnabas as thePrincipal since November 2005, the College has re-dedicated itself to quality highereducation and unalloyed service to the society. Alert to the fast changing scenario inboth education and the job market, under the command of its youthful and energeticPrincipal, the College is pushing open new avenues in the manner, nature and contentof the education provided. New horizons unfold as the College leads its new generation

Admission Guidelines

Students will be admitted on merit and as per the norms laid down by the

HSC Board, Government and the College Management. The Principal reserves the

right to amend or modify the guidelines regarding admissions as and when

modifications are received from different authorities and the Management. Parents and

students are requested to go through the guidelines and admission notification put up

on notice boards before seeking admission to the College. 50% seats are reserved for

students belonging to the Christian Minority. Differently-abled students are given

admission to academic programms & hostel on prefrential basis. Concessions in

admission fees, scholarships & other facilities are also available to the differently-abled

students.

Junior College - F.Y.J.C.A student who has passed the S.S.C. [Std. X] examination conducted by

Maharashtra State Board of Secondary & Higher Secondary Education or any other

examination recognized as equivalent hereto by the Board is eligible for admission to

the F.Y.J.C. [Std. XI] Class.

The College will admit a student, who has passed the examination other than

that conducted by Maharashtra state Board of Secondary & Higher Secondary Education,

provisionally. Such students should contact the College office immediately for guidance

in securing eligibility, migration certificate and confirmation from the H.S.C. Board,

Pune.

Those students who have secured a place on the S.S.C. merit list will be

admitted directly to the F.Y.J.C. class. Parents can contact Dr. R. J. Barnabas,

Principal, for admission and Dr. B. P. Hivale scholarship.

Forms will be issued and accepted as per the schedule notified on the

College Notice Board. There are separate counters for different faculties [Arts, Science

and Commerce] and parents /students should submit their admission documents at the

respective counters.

Students should bring the following documents along with the application form :

a] Original SSC /equivalent mark-sheet and its four true copies

b] Original School Leaving Certificate along with its four true copies

c] Caste Certificate in the original and its true copy

d] Migration Certificate

Students whose names appear on the merit list for admission must complete

the admission formalities by paying the fees and submitting their required documents

as per the time and schedule notified, FAILING WHICH THEIR CLAIM FOR

ADMISSION WILL STAND FORFEITED.

● Cancellation of provisonal admission will result in the deduction of a sum of

Rs. 300/- which is being charged as processing fee.

● Any other requirement will be notified on the College Notice Board.

● Parents / Students may contact designated teachers who are available for

HELP at the time of admission for filling up the forms. All parents and

students are requested to read the College Notice Board before

filling in and submitting the forms.

● All admissions are provisional until confirmed by the appropriate authority.

● Those who desire to get leave travel concession [long journey by railway, air, bus]

should write their hometown address in the admission form, failing which no

application for long journey concession will be entertained.

● The College Office will not entertain any application or request for the seats

reserved by the Management.

● Students of F.Y.J.C. Science desiring to get Electronics, Technical and IT

should fill up a separate application form along with a Xerox copy of their

S.S.C. Mark-sheet after completion of FYJC admission. Admission will be

strictly on merit basis.

● Electronics / IT is a non-grant course. The students will have to pay the

course fees separately besides regular fees.

● All the FYJC students are requested to ensure their medical fitness by getting

themselves examined by their family doctor and produce fitness certificate

before taking admission.

● UNIFORM is compulsory for Junior College students.

Undergraduate1. F.Y.B.A. / B.Com. / B.Sc. admissions will be as per the directions issued by the

University /Govt. and the Management from time to time.

2. A student to be eligible for the First year of degree courses must have passed the

H.S.C. examination conducted by the Maharashtra State Board of Higher Secondary

Education or an examination recognized as equivalent with subjects as may be

specified by the University in Arts, Commerce and Science streams.

3. Students of other Boards should submit Transfer Certificate, Migration Certificate

and Statement of Marks in the original along with true copies at the time of admis-

sion.

The following documents are necessary while taking admissions.

c] Original Caste Certificate

d] True copies of certificates of Sports, Games and Cultural activities

Students from other colleges seeking admission should bring a No-Objection

Certificate from the Principal concerned. The admission will be confirmed only on

receipt of the T.C. from their previous colleges.

Students who have passed prior to March 2010 and seeking admission to

FYBA/B.Com./B.Sc./B.Sc. Computer Science should produce a Gap Certificate at the

time of admission.

All admissions are provisional until confirmed by the University, Government

and the Management.

Postgraduate1] Post Graduate admission will commence after the declaration of TY results.

G Students entitled to Fee concession (e.g. EBC, PTC/ Freedom Fighters Children, BCetc) should submit fresh application forms every year to the office. They are advisedto read the notices displayed on different notice boards from time to time.

G Under-Graduate students of B.C./ EBC/ Wards of Primary Teachers /FreedomFighters /Service Personnel etc. should pay Welfare Fund Contribution, Deposit andEligibility fees as indicated at the time of admission.

G Post Graduate Students from categories BC / EBC / Wards of Primary Teachers /Freedom Fighters / Service Personnel etc. should pay laboratory fees, Gymkhana fee,Welfare Fund Contribution, Deposit and Eligibility fees as indicated at the time of ad-mission.

G Eligibility Fees : a] Students who pass XII Std. from Maharashtra State Board Rs. 50/-b] Students who pass from other States Rs. 120/-. The same applies to P.G. students.

G A student admitted to the College shall be issued an identity card from the office. He/she should submit 4 passport size photographs and fee receipt in the Office beforethe notified date. Defaulters will be fined. For a duplicate identity card, a student willhave to pay Rs. 100/- towards service charges.

G Fees will not be returned for any of the non-grant courses after the cancellation ofadmission.

EXAMINATION GUIDELINES

Junior College1. A candidate should be present for the different exams. A candidate must secure

minimum 35 marks out of 100 in each of the two compulsory languages, EnvironmentEducation and in each of the four optional subjects.

2. Marks for theory, practicals and oral in the subject where there are two parts, shouldbe taken together and the total marks should be considered for a pass or distinction.

3. The result of the First Year Junior College (Std. XI) class should not be decided onthe marks obtained only in the Second Term end examination. Equal weightageshould be given to (a) First term end examination. (b) Secondterm end examinationand (c) Year's Work-practicals, Unit-tests, tutorials, orals, etc. and the final result ofthe student for each subject should be decided on the average marks only.

4. There shall not be any ATKT concession.

5. No candidate will be promoted to the next/higher standard if he fails even afterapplying the rule of giving the benefit of condonation of marks as provided inthe rules of condonation.

6. There will be no re-examination in the case of failed students.

7. In the case of students who could not appear at the first or second term endexamination for genuine reasons, due to ill health (on submission of a medicalcertificate in time) or such other reasons beyond his/her control (Such as naturalcalamities), the Head of the Junior College shall hold the first-term end exam asearly as possible, but in any case before the end of the second term. However,second term re-exam in case of such student should be conducted immediately afterthe second term end examination. Such concession should not be given in case ofstudents absent during the yearly work.

Senior CollegeUndergraduate

1. There will be a terminal examintion of 60 marks for each subject of 2 hours atthe end of First Term of each year to be conducted by the College.

2. There will be an annual examination of 100 marks conducted by the Universityand of three hours duration for non-practical subjects and for practical subjects theannual theory examination of the University will be of 80 marks and three hoursduration and 20 marks for practical subjects (B.Com.)

3. In case of the Compulsory Paper at SYBA and Functional English at F.Y.B.Com.there will be an oral examination of 20 marks and annual theory examination ofthe University will be for 80 marks.

4. In case of a subject having autonomy in the College there will be an annual theoryexamination of 80 marks which will be conducted by the College.

5. In the practical subjects a student shall be required to maintain a journal forpractical work. The practical examination will be conducted prior to the annualtheory examination.

There will be a term end Examination of 60 Marks which will be convertedinto 20 marks and the annual examination will be of 80 marks.

General Rules◆ Every Student entering the Library premises should have a valid College Identity

CanteensThere are 5 canteens on the College premises. Canteens provide meals. Most

Alumni AssociationAhmednagar College Alumni Association is an important external appendage

National Service SchemeThe Government of India in co-operation with the State Government has

introduced the National Service Scheme for the students interested in serving thecommunity through various development and extension programmes. Every year bothmen and women are enrolled in N.S.S. They are expected to engage themselves in regularsocial work for not less than 120 hours in regular N.S.S. activities in the academic year.They are also required to attend an annual special camp of 10 days.

National Cadet Corps (NCC)Ahmednagar College is the Headquarters of the 17 Maharashtra Battalion. NCC

Enrolment is voluntary. All expenses on uniform, kit, annual training, etc; are borneby the Government. College students are encouraged to join the NCC where they getMilitary training which enables them to join the Armed Forces. Cadets scoring A andB grading in 'C' certificate exam are eligible for SSB interview directly. Our unit is thebest unit in the battallion.

N.S.S. T.O.C.From its very inception, the College has laid stress on the need to innovate

and experiment in higher education and to nurture the young for all rounddevelopment. At one point the Centre for Studies in Rural Development experimentedwith student involvement in rural construction. Out of these pioneering experimentscame a model which is now known as the National Service Scheme. For Some yearsthe College has N.S.S. TOC, a regional Training Office for Maharashtra which trainsN.S.S. Officers at regular courses / workshops.

Y.C.M.O.U. CentreThe College is a centre of the Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University.
