STRIVING FOR EXCELLENCE
Dear Parents and Carers, Tell Them From me Survey This term, our school will once again be participating in the Partners in Learning parent survey, another part of the Tell Them From Me suite of surveys (student, teacher and parent surveys) on student engagement. The survey asks parents and carers questions about different factors that are known to impact on student wellbeing and engagement. Participating in this survey will help our school understand parents’ and carers’ perspectives on their child’s experience at school. To access the survey for Kingswood South Public School go to: http://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/kspsttfm Every parent / carer who completes the survey will go into the draw for a $100 gift voucher. To go into the draw, simply take a screen shot of the final screen of the survey and email it to the school with your name and contact details. The school email address is: [email protected] . New Community Partner The Bikers Hand is a charity Group that has come on board to support our Student Wellbeing Programs here at Kingswood South Public School. They have donated food and clothing items which we use to support families who need some help from time to time. We are very happy to have this wonderful group of people join our school community. Student Awards We once again recognised our student’s achievement for learning, behaviour and also our Writer of the Month Awards winners. These were given out to the students in their classrooms due to the restrictions currently in place. Congratulations to our students for their efforts. Their photos are in this newsletter. New Inclusive Education Statement The Department of Education has released its Inclusive Education Statement and Strategy for Students with a Disability. The strategy is about strengthening inclusive education for all students with a disability in mainstream schools, support classes, and schools for specific purpose. The statement and materials to help everyone understand this are available online at www.education.nsw.gov.au/inclusive-education.
Books from Homes Another partner we have in our school community is the Penrith Valley Rotary Club who each term donate reading books to support the ongoing commitment of student literacy in schools. Mrs Burton is pictured in this newsletter with some of the recipients of this terms books. Kindergarten and Preschool Enrolment 2021 Kindergarten and Preschool Enrolments for 2021 are now being accepted. Please contact our school office between 8.30am and 3.00pm Monday to Friday to collect the enrolment forms. Completed application forms should be returned to the School Office together with the child’s original Birth Certificate, current Immunisation Certificate and proof of residential address. Stage 3 Camp to Canberra At this stage our Stage Three Camp to Canberra is going ahead next term pending any further restrictions that are placed on us by the Department of Education and Health. The final payment is Friday the 18th September, 2020. If you are having difficulty in paying the full amount by this date please contact the school to arrange a meeting with the Principal, Miss Martin. If the camp needs to be cancelled due to imposed restrictions all money will be refunded to families , or the funds can be kept in advance to be used for excursions and payments in 2021. Parent Information Sheet Currently in our school we have some of our parents participating in the Got It program. The pro-gram has great resources to support families. Included in this newsletter is a parent tip sheet on how parents can deal with anxiety in their children and also resources that you can access online to help support you. Finally, as our bubblers are still closed due to COVID please remember to send you child with their water bottle each day. Please also make sure that their name is marked clearly so it can be returned if they misplace it. Regards Ms Sandra Martin Principal
CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR BOOK WEEK WINNERS
Garden Club
This year Gardening Club runs on Tuesdays at lunchtime. The Gardening Club is made up of Stage 2 and 3 dedicated gardeners. We have been weeding, watering and growing a variety of vegetables .This term we harvested a bumper crop of potatoes and carrots. Even with COVID-19 we still managed to keep our green fingers! Now that it's Spring we plan to plant a selection of salad vegetables such as lettuce, cucumber and tomatoes. We are preparing the soil prior for planting and are looking forward to cultivating another plentiful crop.
Last week we had a great week celebrating book week. The Scholastic Book Fair was here and stu-dents had a chance to buy a great range of books and stationery. By hosting the book fair KSPS made over $1000 to spend on new books and resources for the library. Thank you to all the parents who allowed their children to buy books. We also celebrated books by having peer read-alouds. Our Stage 2 and Stage 3 students chose a favourite picture book and read it to our Early Stage 1 and Stage 1 students. The younger students loved being read to by their new big friends and our older students enjoyed showing off their reading talents. Lastly, we had our Book Character Parade. It was wonderful to see so many students dress up. We had Minecraft and Star Wars characters, Little Red Riding Hoods and Elsa's and Cat In The Hats, Wally's, unicorns and many, many more. Thank you to all the parents who helped students dress up. The students have been sharing in library their favourite part of the day and showing off their costumes was definitely a highlight (as was the Gingerbread Man being chased). The parade finished with the drawing of the door prizes for the book fair. Scholastic kindly donated 4 books to give as prizes and the students who won were presented with their books.

At the moment we do not have a date for when School Banking will re-commence. We will advise once this information is available. The Uniform shop is closed until further notice, however orders can be placed over the phone at school and payment can be made over the phone with EFTPOS or online to the P & C Account, (bank details on bottom of order form). Orders will be processed and uniforms given to students or arrangements can be made to pick up. An order form is included in this newsletter. Our next meeting date is to be advised. Without the support of you the parents and carers we would not be able to give as much back to the school as we do. P&C Committee
