KINGSMEAD BAKE OFF TRIUMPH
As we approach the Easter
break it is good to be able to
reflect on the activities and
achievements of our students
during the last term. A
highlight for me was the
brilliant K-Fest event
organised by our sixth form
students. It always makes me
very proud to see our
students displaying their
talents and this event was no
exception. The performers
represented all ages from
Year 7 to Year 13. They were
confident and the audience
received them with well-
deserved applause in an
uplifting evening of music. I
would like to offer my
congratulations to all of our
performers and my thanks to
Miss Grice and Mrs Williams
for all the time and effort they
give to supporting them.

Headteacher’s Foreword
Two winners of earlier rounds from each
house went through to a live final held after
school on the 8th of March in the food
technology rooms. The category chosen
was sponge cakes and the finalists had 2
hours to bake and decorate their master
piece. The cakes included victoria
sponges, chocolate cakes, caramel fudge
cake and a piñata cake. Despite a
fantastic standard there had to be an
overall winner! The three well qualified
judges were Gill and Kirsty from the
kitchen and Josh Teirnan who won the
Bake off 2 years ago. The winners
were………
1st Mia Taylor- Coppice
2nd Aine Bromley- Littleton
2nd Jeeven Bahia- Wimblebury
2nd Millie Long- Valley
3rd Josh Milakovic- Wimblebury
Well done to all the finalists and entrants of
earlier rounds.

The SMILE team at Kingsmead successfully achieved 'The BIG Award'
from the Bullying Intervention Group in recognition of their effective
promotion of anti-bullying throughout the school. The school has
demonstrated 'best practice' in all areas explored and this a credit to the
work of our SMILE student mentors and the wider school community. A
special thanks to Miss Bayley, Mr Farrell, Miss Goodwin and Mr Truby.
Plenty to smile about...
Key Feature A Kingsmead Learner … shows creativity
Y7 English Project
The English Department have recently run a Y7 homework
project to create a game aimed at 11-12 year olds. Students
carried out market research questionnaires; potential game
ideas; design their toy; produce two adverts and evaluate
their product. There was a high standard of entries across
the year and a winner selected from each class. Special
congratulations go to
Jessica Gough who was
named overall winner for
her original project
‘shopping round the
pitch’.
K-Fest
Valley donates to Katharine House
Students in Valley House
have continued their
support of Katharine House
Hospice by becoming the
first high school students to
take part in the Hospice’s
£50 accumulator challenge.
Students were given £50 by the Hospice and had 50 days
to raise as much money as possible. The total raised was
£295.43. Students raised the money by selling ‘house’
coloured keyrings knitted by Mrs Williams.
The second annual K-Fest was held on March 14th.. This
wonderful event was planned and run entirely by Year 12
BTEC Music group. The evening saw performances from
students in all years of the school, including a fantastic
vocal & guitar performance by Rafferty Winnall, a
haunting dance piece by Ellie MacDonald and an
unforgettable rendition of ‘Anything You Can Do, I Can Do
Better’ by Portia Mills and Luke Pilsbury. Year 13 gave a
heartfelt version of ‘Don’t Dream It’s Over’ by Crowded
House to signify their final performance as a class.
The Year 12 Performing Arts Enrichment Group gave
their debut performance in February. The group work
together every Wednesday afternoon and had planned a
show which took the audience on a tour from the 1950s to
the present day. The evening saw a wide variety of
performances from ballads to heavy metal and tap
dancing to musical theatre! Watch this space for details of
their next exciting performance!
Through the ages
Orchestra for all
On 13th March a group of talented Kingsmead Musicians
travelled to Warwick Arts Centre, for the National
Orchestras for All project. This is an exciting scheme
involving students from all over the UK working with
professional conductors and composers. The aim is to
give musicians of all backgrounds and experience level
the chance to perform in a symphony orchestra.
43 students from Year 7-10 visited the Science Big Bang
Fair at the NEC in Birmingham. They took part in science
experiments and lectures from a range of companies
including Shell, the BBC, JCB, the Royal Entomological
Society and many more.
Big Bang Theory
A new twist on Shakespeare
Y11 Performing Arts students have found a new way of
remembering and performing tricky monologues from
Shakespeare. The students now use raps and rhythms
as a way to get the lines to sink in! This has ben highly
effective and students have been able to deliver their
lines fluently. Students are also performing with a
greater understanding. This has also been supported by
our English department.
Sixth Form Business
students had a treat
as local sole trader
Hayley Causier
came in to talk about
her business, The
Bake Pod, which
sells high end,
luxury cakes. As well as sampling some of her work, the students
gained an invaluable insight into the complexity of starting your own
business. From marketing to production, many areas of the subject
were covered giving students of real taste of what it’s like to be an
entrepreneur.
6th Form Business Students get a taste of luxury
Our popular Aim Higher Evening helped to inform Year 10 students
about the learning options available to them post 16.
A wide range of workshops were available for both the
apprenticeship and university pathways. These included how to
make successful applications and find local apprenticeships as well
as how to apply for Russell Group universities. Another highlight
for parents and students was the chance to learn about financing at
university.
At the end of the evening there was the chance to quiz current
apprentices and students who are going through the UCAS
university selection process. This gave a real flavour of what
students could do now and how they could best prepare for Year
11.
Huge congratulations
are in order for Y7
student Tessa Budworth
-Rogers. Tess has been
swimming since 2013. She gained her honours
swimming badge. She had to complete 8 front
crawl, 8 back stroke, 2 butterfly, 2 head first
surface dives, 2 feet first surface dives plus 16
lengths of any stroke...all in 20 minutes!

Over 40 exhibitors came and spoke to parents and students at the
recent Futures Fayre. Over 400 visitors got to see a wide range of
providers and find out more about career routes. Big local
businesses like JCB, Perkins, Bri-Stor, Francesco’s, IMI-Precision
and Central Construction plus a number of universities. Feedback
from students and providers was hugely positive and a number of
companies have signed up to meet our students again later in the
year. If you are a student at Kingsmead and want impartial,
independent advice about what to do when you leave school
please contact Mrs Butler: [email protected].
7b1 were shocked to find Queen
Matilda visited them recently.
They found her not only elegant
but also quite demanding! We
learnt a lot about her husband
William the Conqueror. We really
enjoyed this History lesson.
Queen Matilda visits Kingsmead
Kingsmead is going
cashless. From 24th April
all payments should be
made via ParentPay this includes trips,
ties, planners and stationery. The only
exception to this is for any trips where
there is an ongoing payment plan which
started prior to the 24th April. If you have
not activated your ParentPay account a
letter will be sent home with your log on
details. In preparation for this
changeover new items will start
appearing on your ParentPay account
under your payment items. At present
you do not need to do anything with
these items unless you are wishing to
make payment for them. Any queries
please contact Mrs Benton in the office.
Kingsmead going Cashless...
Going in to April 2017 Coppice House still remain the front runners with an impressive score of 11137, however, its now
Littleton House that have taken second place with 10137 points, overtaking Valley House in the process. There’s not that
much in it and plenty of time for things to change. Come on Kingsmead, show us that fighting spirit!

Current House Leader Board
This Valentines Day, Wimblebury
organised a love and gratitude
activity. Students from all houses
were able to purchase a heart or
leaf template in tutor time and write
a message of love or gratitude to a
friend, a relative or even a teacher!
All monies raised went to the house
charity fund.
Sporting Achievements
Over the last few weeks, we have had a fantastic array of primary liaison
events at Kingsmead, giving primary students a taste of high school life
and getting to experience new and fascinating subjects and topics!
Year 4s and 5s from St. Peters learnt how to use coding in computer
programming. We have also had Pye Green Academy visit for a ‘French
Foods’ whole day event, learning French words through poems and songs
and baking their own patch of cupcakes. We look forward to many more
events during the Summer term, including fusing Music and Geography
together for ‘places in the world’ and exploring the story of ‘Warhorse’ in
English and History!

On the evening of Thursday 23rd March,
lots of our Y7 partied the night away at
the Y7 reward disco. This event was one
of the rewards for all Y7 students who
demonstrated that they were excellent
Kingsmead Learners and completed the
reward card challenge. From conga
lines, limbo dancing and disco moves,
our fantastic Y7 proved they know how
to have a good time!
