Kinder Start Program It has been absolutely fantastic seeing our 2012 Kindergarten students in action during this week. They appear to be a great group of children and are absolutely loving big school and the great activities that they are participating in. So far the teaching staff likes what they see and have told me how lovely the boys and girls are. On Wednesday we had an enjoyable morning tea and informal discussion about our school and what is in store for the children in 2012. We enjoyed viewing a brilliant collection of short videos of our current Kindergarten children enjoying the huge variety of activities and subject areas that are on offer at WPS. Thank you to Mrs Lee and Mr Lindner for producing these videos. Thank you also to our P&C for catering very tasty scones for the event. 2012 Important Dates Staff will return to school on Friday 27January for their compulsory School Development Day. Children in Years 1 to 6 will commence on Monday 30 January and Kindergarten will commence on Monday 6 February. During the week commencing Monday 30 January Kindergarten teachers will be completing individual Best Start testing with their children at individual appointment times. Parents will be notified of their childs assessment time. Each assessment will take approximately one hour and a tea and coffee room will be provided for parents if they wish to stay for that period. Student Leadership 2012 We are currently going through the process of electing our 2012 student leaders. It is an exciting time and opportunity for the children. I have been very impressed by the number of students who are giving themselves an opportunity to experience success and I‟m looking forward to hearing what they have to say. Today over 60 students will put their case forward as to why they believe they would be a good leader in our school. Their parents must be very proud of them. The Year 5 students will then vote on who they believe have the qualities to lead our fantastic school. Qualities such as excellent behaviour, pride in the uniform and school, very good manners, respect for peers and adults are all very important. From this process 16 candidates will be placed on the ballot paper and will present their speeches to Years 2,3,4,5 and 6 on Tuesday 22 November commencing at 11:25am in the school hall. Students in Years 3-6 and staff will then vote. From this process we will end up with two girls and two boys as Captains and Vice Captains. The prefects will then be allocated to the four students with the next highest votes irrespective of gender. Please feel welcome to attend next Tuesday to see our future leaders in action. Good luck boys and girls. Industrial Action Early Notice The Teachers Federation has called for a 24 hour Industrial Action day on Tuesday 29 th November. I will endeavour to ascertain our level of supervision for this day next Thursday and propose to send a note home notifying our community on that day so our School Spectacular participants are notified. I will also endeavour to place the notice on the school website in case the note does not find its way home or your child is absent from school.

Kinder Start Program

It has been absolutely fantastic seeing our 2012 Kindergarten students in action during this week. They appear to be a great group of children and are absolutely loving big school and the great activities that they are participating in. So far the teaching staff likes what they see and have told me how lovely the boys and girls are. 2012 Important Dates

Staff will return to school on Friday 27January for their compulsory School Development Day. Children in Years 1 to 6 will commence on Monday 30 January and Kindergarten will commence on Monday 6 February. During the week commencing Monday 30 January Kindergarten teachers will be completing individual Best Start testing with their children at individual appointment times. Student Leadership 2012

We are currently going through the process of electing our 2012 student leaders. Industrial Action – Early Notice

The Teachers Federation has called for a 24 hour Industrial Action day on Tuesday 29th November. I will endeavour to ascertain our level of supervision for this day next Thursday and propose to send a note home notifying our community on that day so our School Spectacular participants are notified. I will also endeavour to place the notice on the school website in case the note does not find its way home or your child is absent from school.

P&C Assistance

I would like to acknowledge our P&C for their generosity and once again unfailing support for the students at our school. The P&C have or will be donating funds to support students attending or who have attended The Schools Spectacular, Sydney Choral Festival and Girls PSSA Soccer State Finals day. They have also agreed to purchase eight more shade shelters and ground sheets (tarps) for use at school activities such as carnivals.

Thank you

Schools Spectacular

Good luck to the 12 talented children who will be performing at the 2012 School‟s Spectacular next week. They will have a fantastic experience dancing at the Sydney Entertainment Centre. Good luck to Ella A, Rebecca A, Tylah B, Bella C, Maggie F, Layne F, Brianna H, Phoebe L, Millie L, Courtney N, Alyssa O and Olivia P. Thank you to Mrs Dignum and Mrs McCue for organising, preparing and accompanying the girls. I‟m looking forward to attending the Friday evening performance. We also have a bus load of approximately 50 students who will travel down with Mrs Pelley and Mrs Domanski on the Friday to watch the Matinee performance and support our dance group. I know they will have a great time and thank you to Mrs Pelley for coordinating this event. Good luck also to one of our talented staff members Mr Moodie who has been once again requested to be a stage manager for this magnificent state wide event. Last year Mr Moodie actually performed a song along with other talented singers as part of the concert and if you have seen a 2012 promotional poster our very own Mr Moodie is on the poster. Yes, I have laminated him a copy!

WOOSH

Our fantastic After School facility led by Miss Alex due to parent interest will be open on Wednesday 21, Thursday 22 and Friday 23 December for your convenience. However, for the centre to open Miss Alex has informed me she needs a certain number each day before it can operate. If you are interested an accessing this service please contact Miss Alex as soon as possible to secure your child‟s position.

Swimming Scheme

Good luck to the 100 plus students who are participating in the school‟s swimming scheme commencing next week. We all know how important it is to have our children being capable swimmers. Thank you Mr Beard for organising this program and to the staff who will be teaching the lessons.

School Band Program

Yesterday students from Year 2 to Year 6 enjoyed a band concert performed by the Year 6 Tacking Point Public School Band. It was brilliant to watch these young children play their instruments so well. I‟d love to see our students be able to play a musical instrument as well and while the concert was on I was imagining they were wearing blue and were our children performing. I do know we have got some talented children who already do play an instrument. In 2012 the company BLUEGUM 2 will be providing lessons on a user pay basis. Lessons will more than likely be during class time so children will have to make a commitment that they will catch up on work missed where required. Notes will be distributed to those interested students in the near future and I will attempt to place the note on our website. It is also proposed that students who are interested and can already play an instrument attend a free trial after lunch one afternoon next week (day yet to be decided). Class teachers will notify children verbally of the day so children may bring an instrument if they wish.

Agel Care Foundation

The Agel Cares Foundation currently has operations in the Australia, United States, Nigeria, Thailand, Malaysia, Mexico, Israel, Switzerland, Spain, Vietnam, India and the Philippines. In Australia, Agel Cares Foundation supports Fred Hollows Foundation. On Sunday 20 November, 2011 Agel team members all over Australia are organising small groups in their local communities to participate in a “Walk of Hope”. With a small registration fee of $2, you are invited to Join the Walk of Hope in Wauchope and help give someone the Gift of Sight for Christmas. Where you see this brochure you can register and we look forward to meeting you on Sunday 20th November, 2011, 8.00am at Lasiandra Park, Corner Cameron St and Blackbutt Drive. Around the world there are those in need of our help. Young and old suffer every day without access to good healthcare. As individuals we can do something to help. United we can do much more. Together we can repair smiles, enhance vision, and improve health. Agel donates $.01 to Agel Cares for every Agel Gel Pack tab received from distributors and customers, all over the world, as they improve their own personal wellbeing. It may seem small, but every cent helps make a difference for someone, somewhere. For example, for every 3,000 tabs Agel collects, Agel Cares helps mend the smile of one child, by providing bandages and medication. For 10,000 tabs, Agel Cares buys needed capital equipment. Agel team members Agel Cares is already involved in several great causes designed to reduce suffering. Our diverse projects share one common goal, improving lives. There is an alarming disparity between the health and wellbeing of Indigenous Australians and other Australians. Those who live in remote and isolated areas suffer the greatest disadvantage. Through a series of interrelated projects including nutrition, literacy, eye health, aural health, women‟s health and workforce training, we are able to address the underlying causes of health inequity. Over 30 years after Fred Hollows led a team of eye health professionals into rural and remote Australia, eyes are again the focus of a concerted effort to ensure outback Australians can access the highest quality eye health care. You may register at any of the following businesses in Wauchope, up till midday Saturday 19th November.
