March 23, 2020 Dear AMS Parents and Guardians of Kinder to 2nd Grade Students, Thank you for your continued support of your child’s education during this temporary school closure. We are glad to partner with you in our commitment to ensuring continuous and meaningful learning for all our students during this time. Learning will continue at home via a print or online learning model for the week of March 23rd. You can feel confident that during these distance learning days, this packet contains information that explains:

• The contents of this packet • Expectations the school has for completing the work • Explanation of how the contents aid student learning • How to use this packet effectively at home

Contents This worksheet packet contains the following:

• 10 Study Island ELA topic lessons and practice • 10 Study Island math topic lessons and practice

Each topic has been carefully chosen by AMS Network content specialists. These topics are a review of material previously taught in the classroom and includes mini lessons that serve as a resource for students to review prior to completing the topic practice.

School Expectations AMS students in grades K through 2 will be required to complete the following EVERYDAY during the week of March 23rd:

• 2 Reading/Grammar topics • 2 Math topics

This means by the END OF THE WEEK, students will have completed a total of:

• 10 Reading/Grammar topics • 10 Math topics

Students will be required to bring in printed packets for grading by the teachers once school resumes.

How the Contents Aid Student Learning The contents of this packet provide academic practice for students in reading, math, and science at their grade level. This practice will help students maintain what they have learned in the classroom during this extended break so that they can successfully transition back to the classroom when schools open.

Using this Packet Effectively at Home Students working from home need to have their own routines in place to effectively manage their time in order to stay on track. Having a specific daily schedule is key and parents can help in not only building this plan, but in making sure that it is followed.

Before beginning the packet, we recommend you do the following:

1. Develop a plan with your child. Discuss with your child what they are responsible for completing each day and how long it will realistically take for them to complete the work.

2. Make a schedule with your child. Once you have decided what is to be done and how long it will take, make a schedule with your child to help keep them on task.

3. Set up a designated workspace for your child. It is important to put thought into what kind of environment is truly effective for your child to complete his or her work successfully at home.

4. Familiarize yourself with the packet your child is completing. Knowing what your child is working on before he or she works on it is the best way to prepare yourself for offering them support.

Once you have developed a schedule, we recommend you do the following:

1. For students in grade K-2, part of their work will have to be led by an adult. Some of the questions may require that you read the question to your child or help them in some other way. Please work with your student to help them complete their work.

2. Email your child’s teacher if you have questions. Your child’s teachers are your primary teammates in supporting your child through his or her schoolwork. Should you have any questions about the work assigned, reach out to your child’s teacher via Class Dojo or their email so they can help. Each teacher’s email address can be found on your school’s website, just click the “Teacher Webpages” link on the left-hand side of the menu to find their email.

3. Ensure all work is completed to the best of your child’s ability. Students will be expected to turn in their completed worksheet packets to their teachers upon their return. All work completed during the school closure will count towards their grade.

Thank you again for partnering with us in continuing your child’s education during this time. Please feel free to reach out to your schools via Class Dojo, email, or by phone to answer any questions you may have.
