Our publishing company, The Lyrical Note, has the unique goal of producing early learning themes that are explored in classrooms across Canada. We Can Be Heroes is our current theme. It introduces young children to the idea of the Everyday Heroes who are all around us in the communities we live in. We are looking for stories that grow from this idea and are hoping to reach far past this theme. To delve deep into meaningful stories about what it means to each and every one of us to be truly ‘heroic’. From preschoolers to preteens, we are eager to mentor young writers and their teachers and even their parents and caretakers, to develop their own content with the guidance of our editorial team.

FEATURE STORiES

Our feature stories can include anything hero related that is important to children and their development. They can feature the everyday heroes in our communities who do inspirational and/or heroic acts. They can also include anything inspirational that is considered ‘heroic’. These stories can be created in the form of written pieces, graphic stories, even in the form of PSA’s or music videos. Let’s see what our children & teachers come up with!

YOUNG PHiLANTHROPiSTS

Here we will profile stories about how our children are taking on leading roles to improve the world and their futures. Let them educate and inspire each other to get involved through their stories about the philanthropical efforts they have made to improve someone else’s life. The theme here being that giving is the ultimate form of receiving.

Let’s get your voices out there!

CLASSROOM STORiES

Teachers and children are invited to develop stories about anything heroic they would like to explore and share with other children and teachers. This can be as simple as interviewing a community helper to meeting a good samaritan and sharing their heroic story with the rest of us. Our School Blog Writing Program offers schools three options for getting involved in creating classroom editorial content. These programs range from writing a feature story, to creating your very own classroom column, and even developing an entire issue, all with the guidance of our editorial team.

Encouraging our children to express their feelings, options and ideas.

CREATiVE ARTS REViEWS

Creative Arts instructor, Lorrie Holmes, will visit classrooms and report upon their unique ideas about how to use the We Can Be Heroes theme kit. She will also contribute regular features in the creative arts where she mentors kids to create stories and other forms of arts including visual and performing arts all related to empowerment and creativity with the goal being for kids to inspire kids.

CLASSROOM REViEWS

Classroom reviews are done by invitation only. We choose products and services that are related to early

learning enrichment. KiDS NEWS & REViEWS carefully select products that enhance the learning

experience of both children and teachers. Products are both educational and ethical. We promote quality

over quantity and are looking for unique finds that provide ideas and inspiration for teachers to aid them in

their lesson plans and classroom management.

We only review what ENHANCES THE CLASSROOM EXPERIENCE.

EDiTORIAL iN DEVELOPMENT

Our long-term goals for KiDS NEWS & REViEWS include delving deep into subject matters we are passionate about. This includes us bridging the communication between kids for other kids and parents and teachers for other parents and teachers. To take things one step further, we are hoping to evolve our editorial into kids and adults sharing freely to understand each other’s feelings & perspectives.

TALK TO ME

This column will include children asking adults questions and adults asking children questions. All questions and answers will be anonymous with the goal being that all contributors feel comfortable to open up their hearts and share with each other so we can get a better understanding of how to relate to and help each other in this ever changing world.

PEER COUNSELLiNG

In this column, high school students will respond to all submissions that younger children write in about. These youth peer counsellors disclaim to not have all the answers to other’s questions and feelings. They are simply happy to share their own ideas and beliefs in an attempt to help and support their younger peers. The extra layer to this column is that after each submission, all content will be further reviewed by a certified school counsellor who in turn, will share their own professional thoughts and advice to add onto what has already been offered by our young peer counsellors.

TESTiMONIALS

As an early childhood educator with 20+ years of experience, I am so thrilled so have writer/publisher, Lorrie Holmes, work with me on my professional development series of online early learning workshops that I offer to the industry. Thank you Lorrie, for helping me develop these accredited programs with both your editorial and marketing skills. I am so excited that we are launching my advice column in KiDS NEWS & REViEWS this fall and look forward to having you continue to work with our children ages preschool to preteen, as our Writer In Residence. We all look forward to you continuing to develop our Neverland News Column in your beautiful blog for our children, parents, and early childhood educators alike.

It gives me great pleasure to share thoughts about Lorrie Holmes. I’ve worked for, created, collaborated with, and - dare I say - have had the honour of being friends with Lorrie for over 25 years! Her unique blend of creativity is fused with stellar leadership skills. From the era before business coaches, Lorrie would guide brain storming sessions into a practical and achievable plan of action. Her creativity and pragmatic gifts have created charitable and entrepreneurial endeavours including Kismet Kids Foundation, Vancouver Elite Magazine, Lyrical Note and her first book, Best Friends.

Her work has evolved to create more platforms for Kids’ voices to be heard. Through song, videos and her magazine Kids News and Reviews. As a founder of an organization that works on the front line with at-risk youth, I am honoured to be an at-risk youth adviser to Lorrie and her programs.

As a parent of both tween and teen girls, I am constantly aware and on the search for ways to keep the communication open with my daughters. To find ways to support them in this ever changing world. I am so thankful to KiDS NEWS & REViEWS for offering me this exciting opportunity to come up with meaningful experiences to connect with my daughters. Having worked as both a volunteer and teacher’s assistant in the Delta School District, I am very excited to continue working with youth and to further my communication with this impressionable and tender demographic through my new column, In My Daughter’s Eyes, which we are launching soon!

TESTiMONIALS

KIDS NEWS & REVIEWS has become a big part of our family. Both our children have been involved with the blog prior to launch. Both kids are independently inspired by the theme of unlikely heroes and have been given the opportunity to participate using their specific strengths - writing and drawing. Lorrie Holmes, the creator of KIDS NEWS & REVIEWS has been an amazing mentor, providing guidance to develop their skills. Both my children are so excited about the next phase of this program which is the mentorship by Lorrie Holmes for my children to enter in to her Young Writers Publishing Program. Thank you KiDS NEWS & REViEWS and Lorrie Holmes, for all these amazing opportunities.

It is with excitement we announce that our music studio is invited by LYRICAL NOTE to be involved in series of productions. This strategic cooperation will allow us to authorize the use of your lesson plans and literature for the empowerment of all students across Canada and abroad. The impact of the social messages in this program cannot be undermined.

I have known Lorrie Holmes for many years, both as a mother and a professional. Both of my children have participated in a number of Lorrie’s programs through which they have developed a stronger artistic sense, discovered some of their creative gifts, and most importantly, built their self-esteem and self-confidence. I have continually been impressed by the caliber and impact of Lorrie's programs. Lorrie brings a freshness to the unique programs she develops and designs. I work in Psychology with young children at BC’s Children’s Hospital; in this capacity I understand and appreciate how Lorrie’s programs support many critical aspects of children’s development. Given my expertise, I am honoured to function as a reviewer for Lorrie’s programs and products through my lens, both as a mother and a child development expert.
