- Each Kidney contains around 1 million nephrons- Kidneys filter around 50 gallons of blood a day- 2 quarts of waste and excess water are removed from the blood and
excreted in the form of urine each day- Diabetes and High blood pressure are the leading cause of Kidney disease

Benefits and Disadvantages

- Keeps your blood filtered
- Can be done in the comfort of your home
- Hemodialysis (Under careful medical supervision)
- Peritoneal Dialysis (Self-reliant treatments)
- Helps you live much longer
Advantages Disadvantages
- Easy to receive an infection
- Cannot replicate other functions of the Kidney
- Tedious and repetitive
Future OutlookUniversity of California, San Fransisco
- Lengthen survival time without transplant- Less expensive than dialysis- Does not require special treatments- Prototype built in 2007 and expected human trials in 2017
