Those who study history biology and the social sciences believe that the human
being like the rest of the animal world is programmed for survival It is a drive that is at the very
heart of us The amygdala is the most primitive part of
our brain It is the part of the brain that causes us to react so as to fight or flee or freeze so that we might
survive what we perceive as a threat It is not thoughtful or reflective but reactive It is the part of us that
emphasizes the ldquoIrdquo ldquoMerdquo and ldquoMinerdquo Fortunately we do not always use the amygdala but
other parts of our brains can take over and not drive us by means of anxiety and self-centeredness The more
thoughtful and reflective part of our brain can dominate Human beings do not have to be dominated by the urge
to survive and to be number one For me this is a case for God not a proof for I can
never prove God but only trust God But to me there is a reality in the Cosmos that is benevolent and good that
has placed us in relationships where we see another
path besides only self-preservation This presence force Spirit rock mountain male female or however you
want to picture it is what I call God I also believe Jesus is the embodiment of what I call
God And he shows me the kindness and benevolence of God in his life which reflect his words ldquoI did not come to

MARCH IS FOOD SHARE MONTH - PLEASE HELP
DROP OFF your donation in the narthex box
During the month of March our congregation is joining people of good will from across the state to help alleviate hunger Minnesota Food Sharersquos March Campaign is the largest food drive in the state and congregations like ours are the heart of the campaign Last year the campaign raised more than 12 million pounds and dollars for Minnesotarsquos food shelves
This year our congregation will be collecting both food and cash contributions throughout the month of March for our local food shelf What to collect Needed nowmdash Pasta Roni Chunky soups cream of celery mixed fruit kidneychili beans spaghetti orsquos spaghetti sauce canned tomatoes ketchup tunacanned chicken canned corn and dish soap Cash Donations ndash Easier to collect and deliver food shelves can stretch cash donations further because of their access to discount products and programs Cash also gives them more flexibility to acquire perishable items like fresh produce meat and dairy products
2016 Fact Sheet The Far Reaching Effects of Hunger There are many measures that reflect the impact of hunger Here are just a few
Forty percent of food is thrown out in the United States every year or about $165
billion worth This uneaten food could feed 25 million Americans
In 2015 there were more than 3 million visits to Minnesota food shelves
A study on suburban poverty in America ranked the Twin Cities metro area as ninth
in the nation in terms of growth of suburban poverty According to the study the
number of suburban poor living in the Twin Cities area increased from about
90000 in 2000 to more than 204000 in 2011 That 128 percent increase greatly
outpaces the studyrsquos national average increases for poverty growth in the suburbs
(53 percent) and inner cities (23 percent)
In Chisago County they are serving an average 200 local families each month
They have distributed 257612 pounds of food last year One in ten households do
