- How you can keep your children learning during school closures
- Tips and best practices for setting up a daily schedule for students using Khan Academy

Khan Academy is...
In addition to full coverage on math standards, our content library includes:
- English Language Arts (work in progress state, expect it to change and evolve over the next year)
- Grammar*
- Storytelling and computer animation (created in partnership with Disney and Pixar!)
- Computer programming
- Growth Mindset (created in partnership with PERTS!)
Note: Of our 3rd-5th grade content, only math and grammar are mastery-enabled
(i.e. they contain an entire year’s worth of content)
What content is available?
“How do I figure out what my child should be learning?”
- Look at your child’s homework and textbooks; ask them to show you
what topics they are studying in their class.
- Select a course on Khan Academy based on age and grade, and:
- Start with the first lesson, or
- Start with the Course Challenge to identify gaps, or
- Let your child choose where to start

9:40am-10am Play. Ideally play outside.

11:20am-11:40am Grammar
11:40am-12pm Journaling/writing
12pm-1pm Lunch & podcast
1pm-2pm Enrichment

8am-9am Breakfast/Get ready for an awesome day! And yes, change out of PJs :)
9am-9:40am Math. Depending on your student’s grade level, one of the following math courses are
likely a good place to start:
● 2nd grade math
● 3rd grade math
● 4th grade math
● 5th grade math
One practice that we’ve seen teachers and students use to great effect is to start,
regardless of age, on Kindergarten and then move to 1st grade, 2nd grade, etc.
Pro tip: Course challenges and unit tests can be used to accelerate through material more quickly.

mastery-enabled, covering standards
from kindergarten to early college.

Time Activity
9:40am-10am Play. Get that heart pumping.
10am-10:30am English Language Arts. We just released the first version of reading comprehension
practice on Khan Academy. It is grouped by grade level:
● 2nd grade reading & vocabulary
● 3rd grade reading & vocabulary
● 4th grade reading & vocabulary
● 5th grade reading & vocabulary
We recommend starting at your grade level and doing 1-2 practice sets per day (or 10
practice sets per week). This should take about 10-20 minutes per day.
Our ELA content is in work-in-progress state. We will be adding one additional unit per grade over the next month.

content covers 2nd-8th grade reading and
vocabulary standards, with 9th grade
coming soon!
Content includes:
● Instant feedback, and worked rationales for every question
● Practice (exercises)● Passage topics on grade-appropriate
science, social studies, and
social-emotional learning

can get their creative juices flowing with
our project-based Imagineering in a Box
course, created in partnership with
Disney.
Content includes:
● A behind-the-scenes look at how
artists, designers, and engineers
work together to create theme
parks
● Instruction (videos, articles)● Project-based activities to design a
theme park of your very own

Recommend students start by taking the course challenge a few times to figure out what
they know and don’t know.

11:40am-12pm Journaling/writing. Things to write about/prompts:
● Write a funny or exciting adventure story about what happens when school is closed.
● What are you excited or worried about?
● Write a letter to yourself 10 years in the future. What do you want to tell your future self?
● How do you think the world will be different after the novel coronavirus?
12pm-1pm Lunch - Listen to an educational podcast! Try Brains On! If you like science, Forever Ago if you
like history, or Story Pirates to hear funny stories written by kids.

1pm-2pm Enrichment:● Code.org Express course (block based for beginners).
● Khan Academy computer programming, (text based for beginners to intermediate)

Pixar's filmmaking process.
