Following our meeting last week we discussed

a number of potential areas that we felt might

make interesting starting points for our input.

We have outlined these areas below and

presented broad ideas that could serve as the

beginnings of initial investigations.



Idea 1 The Pods

� The Pod areas could be appropriated to suggest the

identity of the internal area.

� We would aspire to include elements that change in

response to the level of activity etc within the pod.

� We anticipate that the use of glass in combination

with printed techniques or optical techniques would

allow us to explore notions of transparency/opacity

and revealing/concealing.



Lenses and Optics

Incorporating the use of

lenses or other optics to

animate the wall and allow

glimpses of the internal

activity.





The Galileo Thermometer.

An idea that could become series

Of vertical interventions around the

Science pod.



The Fresnel Lens.

Used to frame distorted views between

The main circulation and science hub.

Prisms.A series of prisms used as a screen to

The hub interior.



Lenticular Screens.

Transparent surfaces that animate as

The user moves around/past.

Possibly Transparent surfaces.





Using Printed Glass

Printed glass could be used

to reveal and conceal

internal activity.



Idea 2 Furniture

� Often catalogue furniture is specified when

the space could be animated to a much

greater degree with bespoke furniture that

does not need to necessarily cost more but

just needs to be carefully designed for the

users requirements.

� Considering furniture would also provide a

great starting point for discussion and

consultation.





Working with furniture that can be used in avariety of configurations



Considering exterior furniture and how it can beused to create social spaces



Furniture that makes a statement







Idea 3 The Entrance

� The entrance of the school is currently delaminated

by an architectural statement in the form of an

orange frame.

� A colour palette that could be applied to the widerentrance area (printed glazing, paving, paint etc)

could be investigated.

� So could form , the consideration of creating

additional form and texture to the current

� These investigations could be done in conjunction

with the schools and the consideration of identity.







Idea 4 Considering the landscape

� The external environment is an important

element of the scheme.

�

There is great scope for creative interventionsin the external approach to the school.

� Consideration of this area could also be

combined with the entrance way and could

include the creation of imaginative pedestrian

routes twisting through the soft landscaping

with a variety of stopping points





Considering topography and the introduction of undulating

landscapes that can be appropriated by users in a variety of ways



Performance area/speakers corner



Introducing abstract form into the landscaping to

encourage appropriation



Introducing blank plinths into the landscaping that can

be appropriated by the school and community.



Idea 5 The Glazing

� There are two areas of considerable glazing at

either end of the school where there is scope

to introduce printed imagery or colour that

would add a strong identity and element of

personalization to the school.

� These areas could be considered in

conjunction with the entrance colour/pallettewhich may also include an element of printed

imagery.
