2 Design and principle of operationThe positioner is mounted on pneumatic control valves and is used to assign the valve posi-tion(controlledvariable x)tothecontrolsignal(setpoint w).Thepositionercomparesthecontrol signal of a control system to the travel or rotational angle of the control valve and is-suesasignalpressure(outputvariabley)forthepneumaticactuator.Thepositionermainlyconsistsofanelectrictravelsensorsystem,ananalogi/pconverterwith a downstream air capacity booster and the electronics with the microcontroller.Whenasetpointdeviationoccurs,theactuatoriseitherventedorfilledwithair.Ifneces-sary,thesignalpressurechangecanbesloweddownbyavolumerestriction.Thesignalpressuresuppliedtotheactuatorcanbelimitedbysoftwareoronsiteto1.4,2.4or3.7 bar.Thefixedflowregulatorensuresaconstantairflowtotheatmosphere,whichisusedtoflushtheinsideofthepositionerhousingandtooptimizetheaircapacitybooster.Thei/pconvert-er is supplied with a constant upstream pressure by the pressure regulator to compensate for anyfluctuationsinthesupplypressure.

ThepositionercommunicatesandispoweredusingIEC 61158-2transmissiontechnologyconforming to FOUNDATION™fieldbusspecification.Asastandardfeature,thepositionercomeswithabinaryinputusedtosignalizeprocessin-formation over the FOUNDATION™fieldbusnetwork.TheextendedEXPERTplusdiagnosticsareintegratedintothepositioner.Theyprovideinfor-mationonthepositionerandgeneratediagnosticandstatusmessages,whichallowfaultstobepinpointedquickly.

2.1 Application typeThe application types 'Control valve' and 'On/off valve' are available. The manual mode (MAN)andtheautomaticmode(AUTO)canbeselectedwithbothapplicationtypes.Dependingontheapplicationtypeselected,thepositionerrespondsdifferentlyinautomaticmode(AUTO) .ControloverFOUNDATION™fieldbusisperformedovertheAOFunctionBlock(controlvalve)andovertheDO1FunctionBlock(on/offvalve).TheapplicationtypecanbeenteredintheResourceBlockovertheSELECT_DO_1parameteroratthepositionerusingCode49 - h0.

Control valve Open/close (on/off) valve

AUTOmode The positioner uses the set point to position the valve. The valve position (currentposition)appearsin%onthedisplay.

DiscreteanalysisofthesetpointThevalveposition(currentposition)in%andO/C(Open/Close)appearinalternating sequence on the display.

MANmode The positioner follows the set point given over local operation.

− Depending on the application type, certain diagnostic functions cannot be performed or analyzed (u EB 8389 on EXPERTplus valve diagnostics). − In manual mode, an on/off valve can be moved past 100 % of the nominal range (with the closed position for AIR TO OPEN) or below 0 % of the nominal range (with the closed posi-tion for AIR TO CLOSE).

2.2 Additional equipmentSolenoid valveIftheoperatingvoltageforthesolenoidvalve(12)fails,thesupplypressureforthei/pcon-verter is vented to the atmosphere. The positioner can no longer operate and the control valvemovestothefail-safepositiondeterminedbytheactuator,regardlessofthesetpoint.

The manual set point is also reset to 0 % after the solenoid valve is activated!A different manual set point must be entered again (Code 1).

Inductive limit contact

Inthisversion,therotaryshaftofthepositionercarriesanadjustabletagwhichactuatesthebuilt-inproximityswitch.

External position sensorInthisversion,onlythesensorismountedtothecontrolvalve.Thepositionerislocatedsepa-rately from the valve. The connection of x and y signals to the valve is established by cable andpipingforair(onlywithoutinductivelimitcontact).

Leakage sensorByupgradingthepositionerwithaleakagesensor,itispossibletodetectseatleakagewhenthe valve is in the closed position.

Binary inputsBinaryinputBI1(14)Asastandardfeature,thepositionercomeswithabinaryinputusedtosignalizeprocessin-formation over the FOUNDATION™fieldbusnetwork.BinaryinputBI2(15)ThisbinaryinputBI2isoptional.Itisanactiveinputwhichispoweredbythepositionertoconnectafloatingcontact.Theswitchingstateofthefloatingcontactcanbeindicatedoverthe FOUNDATION™fieldbusnetwork.

The binary inputs are configured in the DI Function Blocks.

2.3 Configuration using TROVIS-VIEWThepositionercanbeconfiguredwithSAMSON'sTROVIS-VIEWSoftware.ThepositionerhasforthispurposeaserialinterfacetoallowtheRS-232orUSBportofacomputer to be connected to it using an adapter cable.TheTROVIS-VIEWsoftwareenablestheusertoeasilyconfigurethepositioneraswellasviewprocess parameters online.

2.4 CommunicationThe positioner is controlled completely by digital signal transmission according to FOUNDATION™fieldbusspecification.Dataaretransmittedoverthebususingdigital,bit-synchronousManchestercodingataBaudrateof31.25 kbit/sovertwisted-pairwiresaccordingtoIEC 61158-2.

If complex functions are started in the positioner, which require a long calculation time or lead to a large quantity of data being saved in the volatile memory of the positioner, the alert 'busy' is issued over the DD. This alert is not an error message and can be simply confirmed.

5 Resetting the positionerThestart-upanddiagnosticdata(inCode36Std)canberesetovertheXD_COMMAND(41)parameteroftheAOTransducerBlock.ThedevicedataareresetandthefunctionblocksconnectedtothevaluesgivenintheFOUNDATION™fieldbusspecificationusingtheDEFAULTSvalueintheRESTART(16)parameteroftheResourceBlock(RES).AwarmstartofthepositionerisperformedusingthePROCESSORvalueintheRESTART(16)parameteroftheResourceBlock(RES).The entire diagnostic data as well as the individual messages and histograms are reset over theRESET_STATUS_MESSAGE_DIAG(147)parameteroftheAOTransducerBlock.

The specified values supplied by the device are, however, always to be interpreted as the unit of 1/32 ms.
