02 | Keysight | Signal Studio for Multi-Emitter Scenario Generation N7660B - Technical Overview
Generate longer scenariosSome EW simulations take upwards of minutes or hours. We can now create these longer EW simulations with N7660B Signal Studio for MESG and the UXG agile signal generator using LAN streaming or SSD playback.
Simplify Electronic Warfare (EW) Test Signal Creation
Keysight Technologies, Inc. Signal Studio for multi-emitter scenario generation (MESG) software is a flexible suite of signal-creation tools that will reduce the time you spend on signal simulation. Signal Studio software’s performance-optimized reference signals–validated by Keysight—enhance the characterization and verification of your EW systems. Through its application-specific user interface, you’ll create custom test signals for EW system test.
The new kinematics feature provides more complicated scenarios than can be achieved with static pulse builder examples. Kinematics provides a dynamic environment enabling changes to power levels, Doppler frequencies, and signal phases between ports, throughout the scenario. These signal changes are based on geometric and physics-based models. Simulate signal thresholds and angle-of-arrival (AoA) to stimulate the system under test (SUT).
– Create Keysight-validated, performance-optimized multi-emitter scenarios using one or more N5191A or N5193A UXG agile signal generators for electronic warfare (EW) test from 10 MHz to 40 GHz. The N5191A offers performance similar to the N5193A, but does not require an export license.
– Define radar emitters in a graphical user interface using parameters such as amplitude, frequency, pulse width, modulation-on-pulse, PRI, coherent processing interval, and mechanical and electronic antenna scan modulation
– Define antenna dwells to simulate radars with electronically scanned arrays – Combine radar signals into multi-emitter scenarios using dropped pulse reports to
optimize pulse density – Reduce pulse collisions by changing emitter start times, priorities, and pulse
repetition intervals, and by toggling emitters on and off – Increase pulse density and reduce dropped pulses by adding more UXGs to the
simulation – Emulate dynamic EW threat scenarios with kinematics simulation – Kinematics provides dynamic power levels, Doppler frequency and signal phases for
AoA simulation
EW system testSignal Studio for MESG enables you to more quickly and easily create scenarios for EW system test applications including:
– Threat de-interleaving and sorting – Threat identification – Subsystem interface management – Subsystem threat correlation – Electronic countermeasures – Kinematics and AoA

With Signal Studio, you can define threat parameters such as:
– Frequency, power, pulse width, pulse repetition interval (PRI), PRI stagger, and modulation on pulse
– Coherent processing interval – Antenna dwell time, scan rate, and frame size
Once you’ve set up your signals in Signal Studio, you can download them directly to one or more N5191A/N5193A UXG agile signal generators as a pulse descriptor word (PDW) list.

04 | Keysight | Signal Studio for Multi-Emitter Scenario Generation N7660B - Technical Overview
Get closer to reality The Keysight N5193A UXG agile signal generator features up to 180 ns transition times, 2 ns timing resolution, and –70 dBc SFDR to simulate multiple radar emitters out of one or more UXGs.
Interleave multiple threats and control pulse density and dropped pulses by changing threat start times and priority; pulse width and repetition frequency; and coherent processing intervals. You can also turn each one on and off.

Simulation parameters
Multi-emitter simulationMultiple emitters are played from a PDW list according to the capability of the UXG to transition frequency and amplitude according to the number of emitters and their duty cycles
Multi-UXGConnect to multiple UXGs to increase pulse density and simulate AoA; no angle-of-arrival or multi-channel optimization is provided in this configuration
Emitter interleavingEmitters are interleaved to optimize pulse density and minimize dropped pulses while maintaining accurate pulse width and PRI
Dropped pulse reporting and pulse collision reporting
Pulse collision percentages and conflicting emitters are reported; modifications to emitter start time and priority can be made in the report to resolve conflicts; report is recalculated when emitter parameters are changed
ScenariosCreate a hierarchy of platforms, emitters, modes, and waveforms; user can build up a library of emitters or modes and reuse them in different simulations
Test system definition Add one or more UXG agile signal generators with different options to the simulation
System under test definition Set the minimum simulation power level according to the sensitivity of the receiver under test
Kinematics
Angle of arrival (AoA)Provides a dynamic environment with changing power levels, changing Doppler frequency, and changing signal phases between ports, throughout the scenario
User-defined portsSUT can have multiple ports identified by the user for AoA; each port is user-assigned to a different UXG
Streaming mode
LAN streamingAllows the user to save extremely long scenarios to their PC storage and stream the PDWs to the UXG
SSD PlaybackAllows the user to store extremely long scenarios (streaming PDW format) on the UXG's internal SSD drive instead of to the more limited list point memory
Time domain analysis
Antenna scan displayClick and drag the changeable 3-dimensional axis of the view to visualize the antenna scan pattern of any emitters (and associated platforms) in the scenario
Trajectory displayThe motion of the platforms/SUT and their associated emitters (kinematics) is displayed; this view provides basic visual feedback to help confirm that the configured paths are correct
Timeline/pulse report Visualize the relative amplitude of pulses and sections of the scenario which have dropped pulses
