Dear Parent/Caregiver
Today’s newsletter is being sent home in hardcopy. Please
note THIS WILL BE THE ONLY HARDCOPY
NEWSLETTER FOR THE YEAR as all remaining
newsletters will be delivered electronically through tiqbiz (the
smart phone app introduced last year). To ensure you get
the newsletter, excursion notices and other important
communications, you should complete the tiqbiz ‘start of
year’ tasks contained in this newsletter.
Last week, I welcomed everyone back for 2016 with the
news that Lynbrook PS was being used by the department
and Education Minister to launch the 2016 school year. I’m
sure many of you viewed the extensive media coverage that
night, especially on Channels 7 and 9. The two highlights for
me were to watch our 4 sets of twins playing a huge role in
the launch and the Minister attending assembly to listen to
our students sing and sign the best school song in the state!
Well done to all students and staff showing our VIPs why we
believe there is no better school in the state.
The smooth start to the year across the state has been
disrupted by a series of hoax calls forcing schools to
evacuate or lock down. Fortunately, we haven’t been
subjected to one of these. However, it is a timely reminder to
us that students are well drilled in what to do in emergency
situations. At regular intervals throughout the year, we will
conduct DISPLAN practices that will ensure we are well
prepared. Student safety is our highest priority. An example
of this is the requirement at our school that every excursion,
camp or event contains a risk assessment prepared by the
organiser and signed off by the principal.
Next Monday, the year 1 to 6 teachers are preparing to meet
as many parents as possible at the Meet and Greet evening.
As the students have been back a little more than a week,
the teachers will not be reporting on progress. The focus for
teachers during your 10-minute meeting will be to learn as
much as possible about your child in order for teachers to
have an immediate and positive impact on learning and
relationships.
David Payne, Principal

CAMPS, SPORTS & EXCURSIONS FUND
(CSEF) APPLICATION FORM
The Victorian Government is providing CSEF funds to
assist eligible families to cover the costs of school trips,
camps and sporting activities.
If you hold a valid means-tested concession card or
are a temporary foster parent, you may be eligible for
CSEF. The allowance is paid to the school to use towards
expenses relating to camps, excursions or sporting
activities for the benefit of your child.
The annual CSEF amount per primary school student
is $125.
Please contact the school office to obtain a CSEF
application form (It will be necessary for you to produce
your eligible card at the time of making application).
CSEF applications are due prior to Tuesday 23rd
February 2016.
Compulsory Hats
Just a reminder to parents it is compulsory for all students to wear hats at all times when outside from September through till the end of April. If students don’t have an approved school hat at school they are only permitted to play under covered areas. Please also ensure hats are clearly labelled so if it’s misplaced it can be returned to its owner.
Hats are available from the office for $9.50 each
Mathletics
Late last year, the school signed up every 2016 student to Mathletics. Mathletics is an excellent computer program designed to assist students with numeracy development.
The program is available to students both at school and at home and can be accessed on any computer or iPad/tablet. Very soon, your child will bring home a small slip of paper with their login details.
Students with iPads should download the Mathletics app from the Apple store.
Class Commencement Time
In order to ensure a smooth start to the school day, the music
in the morning will start at 8.45 am as a signal for children to
make their way into class. This will give students, teachers &
parents time to unpack bags, hand in lunch orders & notices,
take the attendance roll so that students are ready for a prompt
9.00 am start to the working day. We hope this arrangement
will enable us to maximise learning time & eliminate late
arrivals to class.
Please DO NOT smoke on school grounds!
Lynbrook Primary is flipping for a good cause
On Tuesday 9th February, pan-cake enthusiasts from across the country will heat up their frypans to raise money for people living in crisis including those suffering from homelessness, domestic violence, addictions or financial
hardship.
UnitingCare Pancake Day is an annual fundraising event that encourages locals to flip for a good cause. This year all the money raised from Pancake Day events will support UnitingCare – one of the largest providers of community services in Australia, assisting over 2
million people each year.
Students at Lynbrook Primary School are invited to join in the Pancake Day activities on Tuesday 9 February. Students from Prep to Year Six will be enjoying a treat while raising awareness for a great cause. Pancake Day is a great way to bring the community together and have fun while making a real difference for those in need.
Please advise your child’s teacher if your child has any food allergies.
Everyone is encouraged to participate and in return for a gold coin donation they can enjoy a sweet treat!
Please return the permission slip distributed this week to your child’s teacher. Gold coins can be brought to school on Tuesday 9th February. Thank you for your continued support.

PICK UP AND DROP OFF
Please remember to obey parking restrictions out the front of the
school. Keep on moving forward to allow others to enter the drop
off zone behind you. Under no circumstances should you leave
your car in this area. We were also alerted by police yesterday that
many parents drive off without securing seat belts. They will be
patrolling again soon and will fine people who are breaking road
laws. Please also respect the disabled parking zones by only using
them with appropriate permits. Permits that don’t apply to the users
must not be used.
Medication Forms
Students who require medication to be dispensed at school will
need to have a medication form (obtain from the office) completed
with details including the child's name, grade, type of medicine,
time and dosage required.
Children required to have Ventolin at school for any reason now
need to supply their own Ventolin puffer and spacer as part of
requirements of the Education Department. Please label all
medication and items with your child’s name and grade before
sending to school.
