Used correctly, it enhances our connectedness to friends and family. Used inappropriately, cyber bullying, racism, sexism and other forms of anti-social behaviour can have a significant and negative impact on people. Young people are particularly vulnerable as they haven’t yet developed the resilience and capacity to deal with such comments. Just as importantly and despite the school’s cyber bullying lessons in senior grades, many young children don’t fully understand the impact of cyber bullying on others. With this in mind, I encourage all parents to disable student accounts for Facebook, Instagram, Snap Chat, etc. Every year, we have issues with a small number of senior children who have posted hurtful comments about their peers online. Parents are often shocked when the school contacts them as there is often no history of this type of behaviour from their usually well-behaved and well-mannered son/daughter. It appears to me that from the relative safety of their device, they make comments about or to individuals that might not be said face-to-face. Cyber bullying experts are unanimous in their pleas to not allow young children access to social media. I hope I don’t need to call you in the near future to discuss your child’s involvement in a social media issue. ANZAC Day and Just One Day An important role of schools and parents is to develop values such as empathy and respect in the children. This week has provided two opportunities to promote such values. Just One Day required the children to live a little more simply for a short time in the hope it would increase their awareness of the desperate plight of children in some third world nations. The Anzac Day ceremony will be an annual opportunity to learn about sacrifice and respect and the role others have played in protecting our freedom and way of life. Thank you to all our staff for getting behind these two important events which I hope are significant moments in the growth of our children. PS. Thank you to the teachers who insisted the purchase of the rice for Just One Day was paid for by themselves rather than the school. As always, very proud of our staff and students! Social Media

As we know, Social Media has become an integral part of our

modern society. Used correctly, it enhances our connectedness to

friends and family. Used inappropriately, cyber bullying, racism,

sexism and other forms of anti-social behaviour can have a

significant and negative impact on people. Young people are

and capacity to deal with such comments. Just as importantly and

despite the school’s cyber bullying lessons in senior grades, many

young children don’t fully understand the impact of cyber bullying

on others. With this in mind, I encourage all parents to disable

student accounts for Facebook, Instagram, Snap Chat, etc. Every

year, we have issues with a small number of senior children who

have posted hurtful comments about their peers online. Parents are

often shocked when the school contacts them as there is often no

history of this type of behaviour from their usually well-behaved

and well-mannered son/daughter. It appears to me that from the

relative safety of their device, they make comments about or to

individuals that might not be said face-to-face. Cyber bullying

experts are unanimous in their pleas to not allow young children

access to social media. I hope I don’t need to call you in the near

future to discuss your child’s involvement in a social media issue.

Please DO NOT smoke on school grounds!

BUMPED HEADS

At Lynbrook Primary School we take the wellbeing of your child seriously - staff provide first aid treatment within the limits of their skill, expertise, training & responsibilities.

On any given day 15-20 children report receiving a bump to their head while at school. These instances can vary in severity from students running into a pole or hitting their head on the ground to being hit by a ball or simply touching heads with another student. Most of these incidents prove to be harmless, however if your child comes to sick bay after bumping their head and shows signs of an obvious serious injury you will receive a phone call to collect your child.

All children who report to sick bay with a bump will have their condition monitored for 15 – 20 minutes by our first aid attendant who will check for signs of injury and observe the students for the presence of headache, dizziness or nausea. A cold pack will be applied to ease any discomfort.

Students who receive a mild bump and display no physical symptoms may return back to class with a sick bay slip for their parents advising of details of the injury, time spent in sick bay and the medical response to their injury. Time permitting, parents may also receive a phone call follow up from the first aid attendant however this is not always possible as more serious incidents may take priority.

It is important that whenever parents pick up their child from school and they have concerns for their child’s wellbeing that medical attention is sought from a qualified practitioner.

Flute Ensemble

‘The music program at Lynbrook Primary School has

continued to grow this year with the addition of a special Flute

Ensemble Program taking place every Friday afternoon. Abby

and Bethany who have been learning to play the flute for 12

months with the Lynbrook School of Music were eager to help

their classmates Tahlia, Ava, Sharifa, Marcus, Sophie, Shivesh,

Jennifer, Avia, Alex, and Ryan, who all played their flutes for

the very first time last Friday.’

Help your child to attend school each day

Welcome back to all our families,

Over the last two weeks children have engage in lots of activities and been learning lots of new things from our

educators.

This term children are working on Our Better Buddy Bear Leaders Program. This gives all children the opportunity to show skills and knowledge they may have in different areas. We encourage all children show respect for those

around them, take responsibility for their belongs and our equipment, begin to show resilience in some situations &

to reflect on their own behaviour and how they can improve it.

Our main aim this term is to help children, families and our wider community understand and utilise Organisations

like The Alannah and Madeline Foundation. We feel this helps our children begin to create good strong Leadership

skills that they can use through out their whole life.

Note from Kerri-Anne:

I would like to thank our families and school staff for supporting Taylor and the educators working within the

program over the last three months, while i was helping at a different school. It has been great to return to hear all

the positive feedback and know they were supported by everyone.

While i was away there have been a few changes to our regulations regarding Extra Curricula Activities for

children attending our service.

We ask that all families are aware that we are no longer able to drop off or pick up children from their activities.

Also our permission forms have changed to now show the teachers or coaches name. We ask that if you haven't

sign new permission forms for term 2, that this is done before your child's next activity.

Any questions please either drop in to see us or your can email us on [email protected]

Thank you
