Types of Input Devices•Keyboard▫An input device which sends data to the processor

•Mouse▫An input device that allows the user to manipulate

objects on the screen by moving the device along the surface of a desk

•Other types of input devices include:▫Microphone, Scanner, and Touch Screen

Types of Keys on the Keyboard

•Alphabetic Keys▫Letters a – z on the keyboard

•Numeric Keys▫Numbers 0 – 9 on the keyboard

•Function Keys▫Keys that allow you to do special things like print

•Manipulative/Modifier Keys▫Shift, Caps Lock, Tab, Return, Backspace, Alternate,

Control, Windows, etc.

front or back of the computer.•CD/DVD▫Plastic disk written on with laser beams to store data

•CD/DVD Drive▫Where a computer reads or writes to a “compact disk”

(CD or DVD)

Using Wordwrap

•Manual Return (also called a Hard Return)▫When the computer operator physically presses the

return or enter key•Automatic Return (also called a Soft Return or

Wordwrap)▫When the computer makes the decision to start a new

line▫The feature of a word processing software that allows

the computer to return for you at the end of each line.
