8th Nordic Passive House Conference

PHN17 Helsinki is the 8th conference in the Nordic series of seminars on passive houses held alternately in Finland, Norway, Sweden and Denmark since 2008.

Nordic Passive House conference series aims to increase awareness and acceptance of very low-energy buildings especially in North-European construction market. This has been a journey starting from very low-energy and Passive Houses, continuing with nearly Zero-Energy Buildings and now approaching flexible Plus Energy Buildings, where more primary energy is produced annually than consumed.

There is a global challenge to reduce environmental impact and the carbon footprint of buildings and districts. A challenge in the Nordic climate is achieving low energy targets while creating buildings that are attractive and functional, have good indoor climate and are of good quality. Buildings and districts must adapt to these challenges and at the same time interactivity is needed for addressing various user needs, such as well-being, productivity and societal development.

The conference welcomes new and innovative solutions for adaptive and interactive energy-efficient buildings and districts including but not restricted to:

• Concepts for new and renovated net-zero-energy and plus-energy buildings and districts (including local renewable energy production and architectural solutions for passive energy saving design)

• Low carbon buildings and neighbourhoods in a life cycle perspective

• Energy-efficient indoor climate solutions for comfort and productivity

• Smart design, operation and management (including digitalization, sensors, data analysis and visualization)

• Highly insulated and energy efficient constructions and systems (including long-term performance, air-tightness, moisture performance, low embedded energy and reuse of materials)

• Energy-flexible and resilient communities and districts (including short and long-term storage solutions and smart and adaptive energy consumption)

• Business models for performance contracting

Conference venue

Finland

Finland is perhaps best known for its peacefulness and beautiful nature. Vast forests, a unique archipelago and thousands of lakes present a striking mixture of wooded hills and waters. In addition to its mystical northern nature, Finland is also a modern Nordic country with a high standard of living and advanced economy and technology.

Helsinki

Helsinki, the capital of Finland, is a modern city with over half a million residents and is situated on the Baltic Sea.

The City of Helsinki is committed to promoting green values in all its operations and hopes that they are taken into consideration in all events and activities organised within the city.

In Helsinki everything is nearby – Helsinki is a pocket-sized metropolis that is ideal for visitors!

Paasitorni

The beautiful granite fortress Paasitorni conference and congress centre was designed by architect Karl Lindahl, and opened as the Helsinki Workers’ House, providing leisure activities, entertainment and education for the workers of Helsinki, in 1908. The building has been tastefully restored to its former glory, respecting its historic past yet meeting all the demands made of a modern conference centre.

In operating as a conference and congress centre, Paasitorni seeks to preserve the original character of the building as a venue for large meetings and events. Clients appreciate Paasitorni’s rich history and unique architecture. In maintaining the building, carrying out new building work and developing the conference business, its heritage is always respected.
