Profile I am an experienced Ship’s Master who has served at sea since the age of 16, rising to my current rank through Boy Seaman, Able Seaman, Boatswain, 2nd Officer and Chief Officer. I qualified as a Master in 1998 and have served at this rank with both Serco Denholm, Wightlink Ltd and Turbine Transfers. I am extremely flexible and I am actively looking to pursue a career that offers new challenges and new scenery; with this in mind I would be willing to consider offers of employment anywhere in Europe and beyond, and am also willing to consider any hours of working. 2004 to 2012

Wightlink Ltd

Promoted from Chief Officer in 2010; in this role:

I am responsible for the safe passage of customers, crew and vessel between

Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight, being one of only a small number of masters

that are able to operate Wightlink’s range of vessels (5000 T Car Ferry and 500 T

High Speed Craft);

I am responsible for ensuring that crew are adequately trained, relevant

certification is in date per the requirements of the ISM, and that periodic

maintenance routines have been completed satisfactorily;

I am responsible for ensuring that customers are provided with a high quality

service in terms of passage and timekeeping.

1997 to 2003

Master

Serco Denholm Ltd

Promoted from Chief Officer in 1998; in this role:

I served as Master aboard a number of harbour tugs (fitted with Voith Scheider

twin and single units, and with conventional twin and single screws) and the

research vessel ‘MV Colonel Templar’ (for two voyages on secondment);

I was responsible for the safe manoeuvring and berthing of both military and

commercial vessels using Portsmouth Dockyard;

I was responsible for providing vessels with ancillary services such as bunkering,

tank cleaning and armament handling;

I was in command of the tug ‘Powerful’ as she manoeuvred the submarine

Vanguard (Trident Class) to her first ever refit docking in Plymouth Dockyard.

1981 - 1997

Chief Officer

Royal Maritime Auxiliary Service (RMAS)

Promoted to this role via Boy Seaman, Able Seaman, Boatswain and 2nd Officer.

I served aboard harbour and ocean-going tugs, mooring and salvage vessels, and

freight carriers. I became familiar with all aspects of seamanship and was regularly promoted on the basis of being an exceptional student.

Qualifications

Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA): Limited European Command Endorsement Master

3,000 (T) LEA STCW95 II/2.

MCA: Officer of the Watch Certificate of Competency (Deck) 5,000 (T) STCW95 II/1.

STCW 95 Safety Training; Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats; Proficient as Efficient

Deck Hand; Advanced Fire Fighting; Proficiency in Medical First Aid Aboard Ship; Bridge Team

Management Signals Examination; ENS (operational level); ECDIS (operational level); GMDSS

(GOC).

One GCE ‘O’ level and six Certificates of Secondary Education (CSEs) including Mathematics and English.

Hobbies and interests

I enjoy sailing and motorsport (both competing and watching), reading and cinema.
