Kiwikesem senior week 2012

Hi everyone, my name is Kiwi! I love traveling, board games, and being active outdoors. At UW-Madison I studied Communicative Disorders, and this fall I am heading off to Marquette University for graduate school to study Speech Language-Pathology. Before Camp Kesem this summer, I am backpacking in Europe for two months. I loved my UW experience, especially hanging out at the terrace and doing the Jump Around with my fellow Badgers!

Joining Camp Kesem was definitely one of the best decisions I made Joining Camp Kesem was definitely one of the best decisions I made during college. I got involved with Camp Kesem my junior year for a simple reason: I love kids and hate cancer. Right after I joined Camp Kesem, my best friend since high school was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia, and Camp Kesem became more than an extracurricular activity to me. Although I didn’t share my experience with other Kesemers right away, it felt terrific to surround myself with others who have or had been through similar experiences or simply others who have or had been through similar experiences or simply shared a hatred for cancer. To me, Kesem is where I can be completely myself and not have to worry about the stresses of having a loved one with cancer defining my life.

Through Camp I have met incredible campers that inspire me, and awesome counselors that have become great friends. I am so grateful that Camp Kesem was a part of my undergraduate experience. Even though I’ll be in Europe for most of the summer, I will be very excited to return to the US for Camp Kesem 2012!
