This is a note to acknowledge with thanks your prompt delivery of the DLB entry on John Ruganda. Do you happen to know where he himself is now? I have tried writing to him at the University of Swaziland, but have had no response. If he happens to be back in Kenya, could you please ask him to get in touch with me? I am waiting for his typescript, and I would also like to request some photos of him and some posters of productions of his plays.

Speaking of which, do you happen to have copies of posters of any of your produced plays? These might make good illustrations for the entry on you in the volume. Originals will be returned to you after copies have been made by the publisher.

I'll be back in touch with you again as the book approaches the production stage. I'm still waiting for a few tardy essays to come in.

I've just returned from Nigeria. ( What a tale I have to tell). Research

went well, until the l~st couple of weeks, when the national engine

went into the pit. I feel I have learnt a lo t, though what it is I've

learnt I don't yet quite know.

Bernth, could I be~ a favour. I've started putting together the Oyono

entry for Brian Cox's Scribner book (he has, by the way, revised his

list of contents: it looks less barmy now). I realize I don't. have

a copy of Richard Bjornson's translati on of The Way to Europe (Three

Continents)--could you g et gold of one for me? (either original or

photocopy). I hn ve the French text, but that's , no good for quotation.

If you have one to hand ~nd could send soon, suggest the Poole address-­

I'll be here till August 3rd. If not, then to Lesotho. Can I offer

you Femi's Yungba Yungba in fair exchange? ( I 'm not sure it is all

tgat fair: if the Oyono costs a fortune, please bill me). I think

YY is a superb play: you should see next time you're in Ibadan the
