Kennya Deshan Ellis Kennya Deshan Ellis, born on May 5, 2001 in Arlington, Texas, is the daughter of guardian parents Karen and Charles Cuba. At the age of 1 month, Kennya moved to Louisiana. She remained there until the age of 8, at which time, she relocated back to Texas. Kennya's love and competitiveness as an athlete navigated her to playing the following sports: soccer for the YMCA at the ages of 8-10; volleyball for the YMCA at the ages of 9-15; volleyball for Newman International Academy of Arlington Middle School; and volleyball and track for Newman International Academy of Arlington High School. Kennya was affiliated with the following organizations: Girl Scouts of Texas Oklahoma Plains, Troop 1911 (2009-2020); Civil Air Patrol (2014-2015); the National Junior & Senior Honor Societies (2015-2020); and the Newman High School Performing Choir (2016-2020). Kennya received the following awards & recognitions: selected to attend the 2020 Girl Scouts National Conference to be held in Orlando, FL; top cookie seller of Girl Scouts Service Unit 209 (2019 & 2018); completed Girl Scouts Silver Award Project (2016); recipient of the Newman Warrior Pride Trophy (2015); completed Girl Scouts Bronze Award Project (2014); and cadet first flight of aircraft (2014). Because Kennya had a second chance to a functional family life, she believed that opportunity was a gift for her to give back to the community whenever she could. Having said this, she has volunteered numerous of hours helping, but not limited to the following events: City of Dallas Operation Beautification Project; 4th of July Veteran Memorial Flag Planting; Boxes of Blessings Food Giveaway; feeding the homeless; Newman school functions; mentoring younger girl scouts; Mission of Arlington Christmas Giveaway; organizing Mission of Arlington donated center; Math & English tutor for classmates; Trinity River Bash Cleanup; Newman Academy - NICH Christmas Decorating; and Newman Academy - Felder Father/Daughter Dance. Kennya's passion for traveling has broaden her knowledge of other cultures as she visited 20 of the 50 US states and 6 international places: Mexico, Bahamas, Italy, Paris, London and Canada. Starting in the Fall of 2020, Kennya will be joining the "MUSTANGS" of Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Tx, pursuing a BS degree in Psychology or Social Work.
