Dear Members, Happy Summer! I have had the privilege and honour to be at Kennedy Seniors Recrea on Centre for extended hours while your coordinator, Liz Gibson, completes another assignment with programs in North Delta. Jan, Cesar, Patrick, Amrik and Diane make me feel so very welcome, as does your board and the members. I will be at Kennedy during the month of July. We have had an amazing start to the Summer—beau ful weather, early local fruits and vegetables and floral delights everywhere. Remember to hydrate. Drink lots of water! If you are feeling thirsty, you are already star ng to dehydrate. Please drop by the office to see me to share program ideas or just to say hello. Gail McEwan

Summer Heat & Sun Safety Wear a hat when outdoors. Wear lightweight, loose‐fi ng clothes. Opt for
lighter colours, which reflect heat. Use sunscreen on exposed body parts, including
the face and ears. Always have a bo le of water handy to hydrate.
Drink at least 8 glasses of water daily, and more if you’re perspiring excessively.
Avoid caffeine and alcohol, which actually dehydrate the body.
Stay indoors rather than outside in ho er, more humid condi ons (preferably on the lowest floor).
Cool your home by keeping hot, humid air outdoors. Shut windows and doors, as well as blinds or shu ers.
Eat light foods, like yogurt, fruits and vegetables in smaller por ons to avoid the body from overworking and overhea ng.
Avoid strenuous ac vi es, especially during peak heat. If necessary, tend to such tasks in the early morning.
If possible, invest in an affordable air condi oner to cool down at least one room, for when the heat is excessive. Summer heat is for the birds!
Come in where it’s air condi oned!
