Every session was extremely well aended, reflecng the interest that you have in your children’s educaon and the much valued support you give to the school. I would also like to acknowledge and thank all of our teaching and specialist staff for their organisaon, aendance and leadership of the sessions and for their preparaon of handouts and overviews to provide parents and carers with informaon about teaching/learning programs, rounes and acvies for 2019. Learning For Life The quote to the leſt reflects the learning climate for our students in 2019. I have already spoken to many of our students about ‘Feedback’. By further developing a growth mindset ethos, students will learn that mistakes are an important part of learning and that it is vital that we LEARN from our mistakes. In 2019, our students will become increasingly accustomed to the fact that learning is not easy, it is challenging, and to celebrate the joy of overcoming challenges. To assist students in their development of a growth mindset and give them the skills to move their learning forward, we will be focusing on feedback. In the coming weeks I will present our students with 3 things to remember in regard to feedback: 1. Seek feedback- from teachers, peers, parents etc 2. Listen to feedback 3. ACT upon feedback We are educang our students for tomorrow by establishing a whole school environment of lifelong learning pracces so as to enhance the ethic of excellence which is paramount at Kellyville Ridge Public School. I encourage you, as partners in your children’s learning to discuss with your children their learning and what do they know and what they need to do to move their learning forward. Bring on 2019! FROM THE PRINCIPAL

P&C Annual General MeetingPlease join us at our AGM on Wednesday 13 March from 7.15pm in the staffroom. We are always looking for new members to join the P&C committees – if you wish to nominate for a position, please put your nomination and the position you are nominating for in writing, marked to the attention of myself. I will accept nominations up to and including Friday 8 March, 2019. Those who have already nominated do not need to re-nominate.Variation to Staff Development Day Reminder - Friday 12 April 2019We will be holding a Staff Development Day on Friday 12 April, 2019. Teachers will be learning how to use Seven Steps to Writing, so they can lead every student to improve their written work by taking the complexity out of writing. Students WILL NOT attend school on this day. As a result of this variation, students WILL instead attend school on Monday 29 April 2019. Thank you for supporting the professional learning of our teachers.

Don’t forget every day to remind your children how special they are and how much you love them.Mrs Rhonda Gosman - Principal

FROM THE DEPUTY PRINCIPALS

Morning RoutinesThank you for your assistance in helping our school year to get off to a great start. Please remember no-one is to be in a classroom before school. Children are to hang up their bags and go directly into the playground where they are supervised from 8.30am. This also now includes Kindergarten students. Students are required to be at school by 9am when the morning assembly begins. Parents are asked to leave the playground before the 9am bell unless they are assisting in classrooms and have signed in. This ensures that we know who is on our school grounds and also that children are able to line up and concentrate on messages that are being given.

Kiss and Drop ZonePlease note that the Kiss and Drop Zone is not a parking zone. You may wait in the zone in your car to pick up your children but you must not leave your car to go into the school. Cars that are parked and unattended, disrupt the flow of cars departing with children. Also be aware that you may be booked if you are at the end of the queue in the part of the zone that states ‘NO STOPPING’. Please also be aware that our old ‘Kiss and Drop’ Zone outside the front entrance is for parking only and cannot be used for picking up. Safety of our students is paramount.

Mrs Jenny Maher & Mr Ian Duncan - Deputy Principals

IN THE NEWS AT KELLYVILLE RIDGE

Madame Butterfly Floats Home in Record TimeSkye M recently dispelled the myth that, in swimming, butterfly is the stroke that everyone loves to hate. In fact, butterfly is Skye’s favourite stroke of all! Skye enjoys butterfly because she spends a lot of time practising that particular stroke at training. She also feels that working hard in order to improve at something is a great challenge and because many others don’t enjoy butterfly very much, this gives her the advantage when it comes to competition.Skye’s hard work in training certainly paid off at the recent KRPS Swimming Carnival where she broke the Senior Girls 50m Butterfly record in a time of 42.19 seconds (the previous record of 43.28 having been set in 2016 by Emma Sanders). Whilst our 2019 carnival was held at the end of 2018, Skye commented that this was actually a good time to hold the swimming carnival, as the swimmers had been training well up to the carnival rather than having to find form straight after a break over the holidays. Skye is now back in training and preparing for her next challenge – the Ridges Zone Swimming Carnival in 2 weeks.Gooooooo Skye! Miss Scott

Leadership CampLast Wednesday, 6 February, the school leaders Jai, Sidhesh, Sasha and Darcy left for a leadership camp in Vision Valley for three days. We learned leadership, event planning and public speaking skills. There were about 56 schools and 144 leaders in attendance. Many people came like a blind man who played his guitar and rode his bike from his house to the beach. There was also a man called Cameron who told us what it takes to be a leader. Marceline taught us how to public speak and not be shy.The Vice Captains, Darcy and Sidhesh did an activity where you climb a 14 metre pole and jump off (We were wearing a harness in both the activities). The captains, Sasha and Jai went on the flying possum. How it works is that you run and you levitate off the ground and go 14 metres in the air and immediately come down safely. We also had fun swimming in a big pool and going down the incredible water slide. We had a great time at camp and we would like to thank Mrs Gosman and the Executive staff for letting us have an unforgettable experience.

New Student Morning TeaOn Thursday 14 November, Mrs Gosman, Mrs Maher and Mr Hope hosted a morning tea to welcome our new students to Kellyville Ridge. Each student was able to bring a friend from their class to the morning tea who had made them feel welcomed at our school. Our school leaders spoke and introduced themselves to our new students, helping to provide a familiar face in the playground. Thank you to our canteen for catering the morning tea.

5/6C Zen Line Landscapes Take a look at these incredibly intricate drawings by our students in 5/6C. They are amazing!

1W Spelling on WhiteboardsYesterday morning, it was fabulous to see 1W working on individual whiteboards to practise their knowledge of words that feature the sound focus of the week. They know that the sound ‘K for kite’ can also be written in some words as ‘c, ck, q, x’ or even ‘ch’ as in ‘school’.
