KELLY’S PLACE
Short breaks for families
KELLY’S PLACEShort breaks for families
Kelly’s Place is all about family.
The respite facility is named after a wonderful young lady, whose family has been a great motiva-tion and have offered so much advice and sup-port. Our respite facility is a tribute to Kelly and her family.
Why Kelly’s Place?
When in 2014 concerned families brought it to the attention of Happy Fu-tures that there were limit-ed quality respite facilities in the area, we knew what had to be done. Working closely with families, com-munity leaders and the individuals we support, a need was quickly identi-fied for a safe, fun envi-ronment where individuals could receive top quality support and families could be offered much needed respite. In response to the lack of respite resourc-es supporting those with profound disabilities and complex needs, Happy Futures sourced a large property and developed it into a bespoke respite facility. Working close-
ly with NHS England and the Clinical Commission-ing Group, the facility has been developed to meet extremely high standards and support will be based on a model specifically for supporting people with profound and multiple learning disabilities. This will ensure that core and essential services stand-ards are always met and exceeded. The two-bed-room respite facility has en suite bathrooms with adequate moving space for wheelchairs. The en-tire unit is also fitted with tracker hoists. In addi-tion to that, Kelly’s Place also has a big lounge, a fully equipped kitchen and a sensory room. The facility has been specif-ically designed to easi-ly accommodate up to two individuals in a safe and comfortable envi-ronment. Respite breaks in Kelly’s Place can be planned or unplanned in case of an emergency.
In addition to offering ex-ceptional support for the individual, respite allows families and primary car-egivers a break from their daily care-related duties in order to look after their own health and well-be-ing, as this can greatly im-pact the quality of care and support they can of-fer. Kelly’s Place can also be helpful in transitional phases where an individ-ual can be prepared for full-time support in prepa-ration for moving onto be-coming independent.
