C-parts management

Keller & Kalmbach offers the right solution forany requirement – from eBusiness systems foroccasional needs up to Kanban solutions forvolume production.

Kanban systems – for volume production requirementsFor volume production requirements, Keller & Kalmbach offers conventional twin and mul -tiple bin systems (KKB), innovative RFID sys-tems (KKT), VPE Kanban (KKV), pulse system(KKI), mobile and customized systems up tocomplete inventory management concepts(pages 12–15, 18).

KKL – for trade and maintenanceKKL is the ideal storage system for trade ope-rations and industrial maintenance needs. Theitems or packages, which are marked with bar-codes directly, are stored in the rack and canbe re-ordered simply by scanner (pages 16/17).

eBusiness – for occasional needseBusiness solutions, such as electronic cata -logues, online shop and the procurement plat-form simple system are suited for one off ornon-recurring needs (page 19).

Keller & Kalmbach is a pioneer in the field ofC-part logistics and set up the first industrialKanban at Siemens in 1987. On the followingpages, we will present our solutions in detail. On the basis of your needs, Keller & Kalmbachwill be pleased to produce a solu tion tailoredto your needs.

KKB – Conventional Kanban systems

Order triggering: Scanning the empty bin

In the twin and multiple bin system, this is theconventional Kanban solution with order trig-gering based on empty bins.

Sequence1. Goods are stored in bins as part of a twin or

multiple bin system2. The bins and the goods are clearly identifi-

able by means of a barcode label3. As soon as a bin is empty, it is removed

and placed at a previously agreed place (e.g. lattice pallet)

4. Empty bins are delivered to the K&K Centre of Distribution, scanned and placed in inte-rim storage

5. Bins and goods are then notified to the picking point simultaneously

6. The bins are now filled with the correspon-ding goods

7. The bin is now delivered to the customer and allocated in the rack system

Advantages- self-controlling ordering system- clear and orderly storage- flexible solution, extendable at any time- different bin sizes and labelling possible- de-centralised solutions possible up to the

assembly location- order quantity adjustment on the basis of

actual consumption- experience gained from more than 1,000

implementations- Kanban online information system- full or partial service

KKB can also be used in label change procedures.

KKT – turnLOG® on RFID basis

Order triggering: Turning the bin

RFID technology has revolutionised procure-ment. As soon as a compartment of the 2-partbin is empty, the bin is turned and the order signal transferred to Keller & Kalmbach.

Sequence1. The goods are stored in a 2-part bin (con -

sumable and reserve stock)2. The transponder fitted to the bin is pointed

backwards into the rack3. If the reserve stock is reached, the bin is

turned and in this way brought into the ordering position

4. The transponder is now above a magnetic rail fastened to the front of the rack and sends an ordering signal to the controller (max. range 50 m)

5. The controller receives the signal and sends the order (after plausibility checks) by GSM/GPRS to K&K

6. The goods are now picked out in the K&K Centre of Distribution, labelled specifically for the customer and sent

7. The bin is then filled locally by the customer

Advantages- simple and flexible solution- clear and orderly storage- storage not site-related- missing bins or faulty RFID-transponders are

identified by the system, with their storage locations and reported

- bins remain at the consumption site- triggered orders are visible by means of LED

signal- automatic recognition of illogical orders

(e.g. duplicate orders)- full or part service

For bulky items and palleted goods, Keller &Kalmbach offers the pushLOG solution. Pressing the button generates the order.

14

KKV – VPE Kanban

Order triggering: Scanning the empty bin

VPE Kanban is an alternative to conventionalKanban. Again, in this case the requirement istriggered by scanning the empty bin. However, these remain with the customer. At Keller &Kalmbach, the packaging unit (VPE) labels theitem with a special label. This produces a clearassignment to the bin.

Sequence1. Goods are stored in bins as part of a twin or

multiple bin system2. The bins and the goods are clearly identified

by means of a barcode label3. As soon as a bin is empty, it is removed and

moved to a special place4. Empty bins are then scanned and transfer-

red by GSM/GPRS to Keller & Kalmbach5. The order is received at K&K

6. The goods are now picked out in the K&K Centre of Distribution, labelled specifically for the customer and sent

7. The bin is then filled locally by the customer, using a clear identification

Advantages- simple, flexible solution, even for require-

ments with a low stock turnover rate- clear and orderly storage- decentralised solutions up to the assembly

location- order quantity adjustment on the basis of

actual consumption- “Stop order procedure”, i.e. order execution

up to an order limit is included- bins remain at the consumption site- different bin sizes and labelling possible- Kanban online information system- full or part service

15

KKI – Pulse system

Order triggering: On the basis of a pulse sensor

After an empty bin has been removed, an orderis placed with the controller via a wireless unitat the pulse sensor (toggle switch) which isdirect ly incorporated within the rack. From therethe order is sent to Keller & Kalmbach.

Sequence1. Goods are stored in bins (KLT) as part of a

twin or multiple bin system2. The bins and the goods are identified

precisely by means of the pulse sensor storage site

3. As soon as a bin is empty, it is removed and this activates the pulse sensor via a toggle switch mechanism

4. The controller receives the order signal and transfers it to K&K via GSM/GPRS orWLAN

5. The order is received at K&K

6. The goods are now picked out in the K&K Centre of Distribution in a new bin, labelled specifically for the customer and sent

7. Then follows delivery of the relevant bin, its unambiguous identification and allocation of the bin in the rack

Advantages- automatic ordering system in real time- simple and flexible solution- clear and orderly storage- can be incorporated downstream in existing

systems- flexible positioning in the rack- order quantity adjustment on the basis of

actual consumption- Kanban online information system- full or part service

KKI can also be used in label change proce -dures.

18

Sequence1. The goods are stored in a rack system,

tailored to your requirements2. Each item is clearly identified, either directly

or via a label on the rack and marked with a barcode

3. Items that are to be re-ordered are recorded simply and quickly with the scanner

4. The scanner is then read and the order data transferred automatically into the online shop

5. The online shop transfers the order data to K&K directly via the Internet

6. The items are picked out and dispatched in the K&K Centre of Distribution

7. The goods are then delivered and allocated in the rack

KKL – Modular storage system

Order triggering: Scanning the item barcode

KKL is the ideal storage system for trade ope-rations and industrial maintenance needs. Thegoods are stored in a rack system, which canbe matched to customer needs in a modularfashion. The items, which are marked directlywith barcodes, are then simply re-ordered with the scanner.

17

Advantages- clear and orderly storage- modular solution, extendable at any time- storage area reduction up to 50%- permanent item availability- clear item marking and quick item with-

drawals- fast requirements acquisition by scanner- comprehensive reduction in workload and

lowering of process costs- inventory function- versatile statistics and analysis options
